If he comes close to winning conference and wins around 10 games someone will come calling after the season

What matters most are the relationships with your teammates forged after four years of living in 250 sq.ft. cinder block dorm rooms separated only by a single stall shared bathroom. Those last a lifetime. They know you better than your wife or Momma. Winning and cheering for the newer versions of Tigers is just gravy whether it's Murphy, Pancoast, Williamson, Dockery, Dempsey, Bailey, Stobart, Scherer, West, Porter, Fuente or Norvell on the sideline.

The only constant is change.

Tough to argue with you on it. People get attached to people that have no attachment to your city and school. Change is constant, indeed. Norvell has a couple of jobs that he would covet. Not every P5 appeals to him.

Maybe, but this administration is pretty dumb. They pissed the last guy off and he left. They've done things that haven't made this dude happy at times as well.

Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

I love how you left out that whole Va Tech of the ACC came calling thing, 'amigo'...sometimes the little facts matter...little facts like more money, better conference, in a college town.

Again fruitcake, I didn't say he left because of that sole reason. He was angered and he left. Both true.

dude, Cash Saver is pretty cool. I love their beer selection (see below). I went to the 'evil empire' and work at the Kroger Pharmacy. I wanted out of food retail and saw Pharmacy as a decent path out. I got my license with the State and I'm taking my cert test this summer.

Salary
2017-18: $1.9M (base + media + PR + capital campaign)

Bonuses
7 wins: $55k
8 wins: $90k
9+ wins:$120k
AAC COY: $20k
AAC Champ: $50k
Bowl Game: $25k
New Year 6 Bowl: $50k
CFP: $100k
National Champs: $300k

A good year (8 wins, regular bowl appearance, no conf. awards or championship) would net him a little over $2M.

A great year (9+ wins, COY, conf. championship, and a New Year 6 bowl) would net him $2.1M

My question...how much are we able to pay Mike if we wanted to keep him. I think he's a stud...I've said as much from the day we hired him & I heard him speak.

if he wants to leave it wont matter what we could pay him

The big picture is some day he will leave. When he does it will be important how we handle it. As we have seen in basketball. If you pay one coach a high salary then the guy who replaces him will demand just that much if not more. If we try to match the other offer and drive our salary higher then the next guy will want at least that much. So we have to decide do we have a legitimate chance of keeping him an extra year or not. If not we cannot get into a bidding war.

It is only a matter of time another school matches or beats Saban's offer and it will drive up salaries. The non P5 school cannot get into bidding war for coaches.

Probably true. Even if we came up with $3M a year to keep him...if a P5 school wanted him badly enough, $4M per year is pretty easy to come by.
