The USM-FAU games ought to be interesting. Both have starting weekend pitcher questions this week...

This may have been discussed already but if Rice and Marshall somehow finished tied at 8, what the is tie-breaker if no head-to-head is available?

it was and cannot remember the thread....I understand what you're driving towards....

we'll be just fine.....

it doesn't matter who they are if you have the "C" running through your veins.....

this collection of players at the plate is the best I've seen....

is our pitching a ?.....no question.....

that's where we need a couple to get the cobwebs out of their head and see the corners of the 'zone'....

Record against common opponents is the first one. And Marshall leads that right now, I believe.

Then RPI.

#243 WKU (4-17) at #104 Marshall (9-12)

#61 FAU (15-6) at #22 USM (16-5)
#37 ODU (14-7) at #183 UAB (7-14)
#105 MT (7-14) at #115 UTSA (10-11)
#42 La Tech (11-10) at #79 FIU (10-11)

Standings...head to head tiebreaker used if warranted
1 USM 16-5
2 FAU 15-6
3 ODU 14-7 (beat Charlotte 2-1)
4 Charlotte 14-7
5 LT 11-10
6 FIU 10-11 (beat UTSA 2-1)
7 UTSA 10-11
8 Marshall 9-12 (doesn't play Rice)
8 Rice 9-12 (doesn't play Marshall)
------cutoff for tourney-----
10 MT 7-14 (beat UAB 3-0)
11 UAB 7-14
12 WKU 4-17

May be several teams tied at 12-12 after this weekend. That requires FIU to win 2 of 3 at home against Louisiana Tech, UTSA to win 2 of 3 at home against Middle Tennessee, Marshall to sweep WKU, and Rice to sweep Charlotte. Except for Rice at Charlotte, the other results look possible.

As far as Hattiesburg goes there is no rain projected/forecasted this weekend once what is here now moves out later today

Kinda surprised everyone has gotten all 21 games in so far with no conference games cancelled

c = confidence

yes, our pitching is questionable

lack of "c" is in a couple of their heads right now

does that help?

I get that. I was just asking what the tie-breaker was for those two teams out of curiosity.

RE: 5/5 - 5/7 CUSA baseball weekend action
My .02 cents worth of story lines for each series:

#243 WKU (4-17) at #104 Marshall (9-12)
WKU has lost 10 straight CUSA games while scoring 2 or fewer runs in 5 of those 10 games. WKU still has very slim hopes of getting into the CUSA tournament but it will need several wins this weekend to get back on track. Marshall comes into the series losing 3 straight CUSA series 2 games to 1 while allowing double digit runs in 4 of those 9 games. Marshall looks to stay in contention for a CUSA tournament berth.

#72 Rice (9-12) at #47 Charlotte (14-7)
Rice has won 6 of its last 7 overall while scoring 6+ runs in each of those games. Rice itself is trying to avoid missing the CUSA tournament for the first time in CUSA's 20+ year history. Charlotte comes into the series on a roll having won 10 of its last 11 overall games while putting up double digit runs in 5 of those and at the same time allowing 2 or less runs in 5 of those. Charlotte looks to improve its top 50 RPI as it vies for a possible NCAA at large berth.

#61 FAU (15-6) at #22 USM (16-5)
The battle for 1st in Hattiesburg. FAU swept FIU last weekend after losing 2 of 3 at UTSA the weekend before. In it's current 5 game win streak the Owls have scored 10+ runs 3 times while allowing 1 run or less 3 times. With a series win/sweep FAU should see their 61 RPI become top 50. USM also swept last weekend (at MT) after losing 2 of 3 the previous weekend at home to ODU. USM pitching has given up 7+ runs in 7 of their last 9 games while scoring 10+ runs in 7 of their last 10. If USM wants to host a regional it needs to win at least 2 in this series.

#37 ODU (14-7) at #183 UAB (7-14)
ODU goes to the 'Ham trying to keep its top 50 RPI. ODU has won all 3 CUSA road series 2 games to 1. ODU has scored 9+ runs each in 4 of its last 5 games. UAB has gone 1-2 in each of its 3 home CUSA series. UAB played 2 midweek games so it could be a long weekend pitching wise for UAB as they sit 2 games back of Rice/Marshall for the final tournament spot.

#105 MT (7-14) at #115 UTSA (10-11)
MT heads to San Antonio having lost 6 straight CUSA games as they allowed double digit runs in 4 of those including 8 runs in the top of the 9th to USM in Sunday's loss 13-9 loss. UTSA has lost 4 of its last 6 overall games while giving up 6 runs or more in 5 of those games. UTSA is the only team to shut out FAU this year as they beat them 6-0 two weekends ago at home.

#42 La Tech (11-10) at #79 FIU (10-11)
La Tech has gone from last place a little over a month ago to 5th place now thanks to 4 straight series wins highlighted by last weekend's home sweep of WKU. Winners of 8 of their last 9 overall, LT aims to keep their at-large hopes alive. FIU has lost 5 of its last 6 overall while scoring 3 or less in 3 of its last 4. 6th place FIU is 1 game ahead of 8th place Marshall/Rice so to make the tournament it would help greatly to get a couple wins this weekend.

We swept Rice but I agree. The way we were hitting last week I was real surprised we lost to Marshall 2-1 on Sunday. It seems we always have one bad day.

Like our coach would say. Its Baseball boss anything is possible. Hopefully we stay clear of bad days during the tournament and then the regionals.
