What a stud.
That's quite impressive. Anybody know/remember what Calvin's HJ height was winning state title at Castlewood?

7'0" According to someone I know who was there watching his daughter compete at the state that year, won state with that jump. Was then allowed to set the bar where he wanted for a final jump. Set the bar at 7'4" and clipped the bar on his way down after clearing it.
Also set state records in long jump and triple jump. See link below, paragraph 4.

Yeah, I knew all about the records, all in one day, but just didn't know the marks. Wonder if that still stands? Two of the three still do, according to that article. He must have been some athlete. LOL.
Update after research:
From this site:
Virginia T&F records (as of 2010)
....it appears none of them still stand. In fact, *if that's accurate*, they've all been gone since 1992. And, *if that's the case*, someone may want to clue Castlewood in - although something tells me they don't want to know.

RE: 2017-18 Roster
The article you list shows the records for the ENTIRETY of VA (meaning all classes combined), which means A, AA, AAA, etc all are listed. If you break it down into classes, I'm pretty certain that Calvin is still the record holder in "A" VA.

Ok. Thanks. Don't have time now to research it. You're the trackster....

RE: 2017-18 Roster
Oh no worries - unfortunately Milestat, which is the best website for looking that stuff off and which is where you got your info, appears to have reconfigured their site and records are no longer readily available. I was able to find a hard copy of the VHSL record book, and from what I can find Talford is still the "A" record holder at 7'0 in the High jump and at 49-8.25 in Triple Jump. Knowing "A" schools, I feel like it's unlikely these will ever be broken. No joke, for small schools those are that good.

RE: 2017-18 Roster
Even though we still have one spot left I'll go ahead and take a stab at a possible starting 5. The center position is a bit of a mystery right now. Will Forbes start a freshman at the 5? Will Jurkin get the chance to start? Or does Forbes play small ball with 3 guards and start either Rodriguez or Harrison at the 5?
PG - Bradford
SG - Payne
SF - Burrell
PF - Rodriguez
C - Armus

Looks like we are getting a new assistant/GA? Any relation to the coach?

I know we lost our Director of Basketball Operations so that is my guess.

I think Jurkin will start but Armus will be playing more minutes by year end. I think:
Williams
Payne
Bradford
Burrell
Jurkin
Bradford as the point forward.

RE: 2017-18 Roster
I say starting out:
Obi-Rapu (Bradford, Long/Williams)
Bradford (Payne, Obi-Rapu, Hodges/Long)
Burrell (Edwards, Gray?)
Rodriguez (Harrison, Burrell)
Jurkin (Armus, Rodriguez)
Roughly, we'll be able to field any day:
6'3, 190
6'4, 200
6'6, 205
6'7, 220
6'10+, 220+
That's trying to be realistic about weight while granting the listed height. We'll see how tall everyone looks together on the court this year.
Obi-Rapu is a big point, right? He's going to get time early for sitting his transfer year. I think Long and Williams will have to scrap and prove who can be a better ball handler/distributor to secure time and get a nod ahead of Bradford at point.
It's all situational. There's going to be a ton of length but not sure on muscle. Hopefully our senior guards will put on 5-10 lbs and the bigs will put on at least 10. Jurkin could be a legit 7' 240 this last pass. The incoming PF's are going to be important. It would be nice to land a 5th year transfer or big 4/5 from Juco in the 6'9/240 range.
What do you guys think is ideal with our last scholarship? (One more, right?)

Yes I think we still have one. Gray isn't listed here. I also haven't seen a press release on Frank Davis being hired. Will he be the DOB?
