This is why the local media has a grudge against Tubby Smith
No disrespect, but even Stevie Wonder can see what is wrong.

Under Josh Pastner, there was an open door policy with the local media and media in general. If the media wanted to talk to Josh all they had to do was call him up and he would get back to them. Even Jeff Goodman said that Josh would reach out to him after he said something in a radio interview or in a column about Memphis basketball.

Tubby Smith is not That Guy!

He runs things how he wants things ran. He gives interviews when he absolutely needs to, not when the media thinks he should.

He will run HIS program (and be sure that as head coach this is HIS program for now); because unless someone comes up with enough money to buy him out tomorrow, he will do things HIS way until HIS way fails!

Local sports media, especially the radio guys, don't have the access that they had under Josh Pastner, that has probably left them feeling a little jilted.

But Mark Giannotto has an inside because he is the beat writer that covers the Tigers. Until further notice otherwise, Mark is the man that can talk to Tubby Smith and get the real scoop.

Have I got it about right Easterwood?

Then you know it is directly from the Mark interview where they are getting their source materials. It isn't like they are making it up.

RE: This is why the local media has a grudge against Tubby Smith
The person filling the head coaching job at Memphis is one of the most important public people in the City of Memphis. For the good of the program, it his responsibility to hold his nose and work with media members like Parish and Calkins. We all perform unpleasant tasks while discharging our job duties and Tubby gets no exception.

I don't know if they have a grudge but the CA coverage of tiger basketball is complete trash. I've never seen such dull, lazy and meatless articles as I've seen from the new beat writer. From the persistent featuring of photos of Markel Crawford who is now an Ole Miss Rebel, to the asinine "timeline" featured at the end of every article, repeatedly trying to highlight the failures of the program. Personally I'd like to see either something positive or at least constructive about the program. How about featuring some of our existing or new players? For example has anyone seen Azab play ball? Is he going to be a contributor? Are the new freshman recruits still excited about coming here? I subscribe to the CA mainly to read about sports. Calkins is the exception and does a good job. The rest is highly disappointing.

The team will have more depth and athleticism than they did last year. The only thing they didn't pick up was outside shooting. But he won't have to play his starters 34+ minutes per game like last year.

He wouldn't have had to last year if he had not taken a long vacation. He felt his job was fulfilled once he hired his beloved.

You can take the tinfoil hat off. It was said today that they found they were getting far more clicks to the stories about how badly Tubs has screwed this whole thing up compared any sunshine pumping piece they could run. So as long as Tubs continues to provide ample source material they will run with it.

It is due to the sheer quantity of medicore ranked players and not the quality per player.

#Saulsavant

Did Saul convince him he didn't need a strength and conditioning coach too? Is saul the Kordell Stewart of college basketball coaches but untalented and undeserving of his job? Will he just eventually be in charge of all the non head coaching duties? I guess it's just like the movie step brothers. Saul wants to run the family business bc it's all about who you know.

When you are only getting paid 3mil a year hiring a basketball savant is more than enough to quantify that little non-p5 coaching money. I mean, heck, we got Saulsavant, how much more could we expect someone to do when they only make a measly 3 mil a year. GOLF COURSE HERE I COME!
