also, every time you think about amateur athletics, remember that Sabans salary could be used to pay each scholarship player 130,000/year

Title IX will keep that from happening, unfortunately. These guys deserve more than what they get...not to say what they get isn't worth something, it can be, but it's not comparable.

Easy solution - Olympic model. Problem solved. Schools/coaches get rich. Girl's tennis stays funded. And the players get whatever the market dictates.

Bama football grossed over 100 million last year. I imagine some of that went back to the school. How much of his salary does the school pay and how much do boosters pay? It's a shame professors can't make more but they don't bring in 100 million $

Yes.
1. Professors don't bring 100,000 people to hear their lectures.
2. SOME Professors bring in SOME students by their reputations
3. I love college sports, but this does illustrate where our societal values lie.

My underpaid public school teacher wife will be leaving for work before 5:45.
Rant completed.

RE: Repeat after me 11 MILLION...
I no longer can watch big time college sports because I have lost all respect for the players. There is no way these guys should not have at least the salary of the coach divided up amongst the 85 scholarship players with the ability to market themselves for additional income, i.e. sell autographs, do commercials, etc. No one has more leverage than these guys. What do they have to lose? A degree in General Studies.

I was so disappointed in those Missouri players. They were willing to sit out because some random yahoos yelled some racial stuff from a moving vehicle and other perceived racial stuff on campus, but not willing to sit out to get paid. Talk about some weak ish.

I never said it was fair, just that that is reality. It's the same everywhere. Company CEO makes 80 million $ while the stock tanks and lower level workers get laid off.

Nick Saban’s new Alabama deal alone ($65 million) is worth more than the entire athletic budgets of 181 Division I schools.

RE: Repeat after me 11 MILLION...
Interesting part is the same people who have no problem with Saban making $11 million a year. Are the 1st ones to join organizations like Occupy Wall St and raise bloody hell if a CEO of a major corporation which employees thousands earns half that much.

He is a 1%er.

Not too many CEO's with thousands of employees are gonna make 5 or 6 million $. CEO's are just like coaches. Their salary is just a % of their compensation. By the time they get stock options, use of the corporate jet, company paid life insurance and on and on, their compensation package can easily double.

Vin Diesel has a net value of over $120 MILLION for pretending to be another person in the movies. Yet you seem to have no trouble with that.

Thing is certain groups of people can make excessive salaries and it is evil while other groups can make more and no one has a problem with it.

Fella, I know facts seem to escape you, but where have I said anything negative about what anyone makes or supported anyone other than Saban. I just stated Saban has earned his money by bringing in many more millions than he is paid? I have no problem with Vin Diesel making millions because NONE of that money came from me. I have never seen a Vin Diesel movie so I don't care if his net worth is 240 million $. If his fans like his movies and buy tickets, that is their business. Dale Jr. is worth 200 million or more. I have bought some of his souvenirs and actually made a few $ selling some of his Dale calls when they first came out. I don't care what people make. If their fans or their schools want to pay them big money, that is their prerogative. I will give Jr a few more dollars this weekend when I go to Dega and again in 2 weeks when I spend the week attending the All Star race, the Outlaws, Xfinity and Cup race. Will you be there?
