Next realignment will only $$ benefit maybe 4 programs/egos and you will have one trick sport programs like Kansas asking for a home and a bone. Truth or rumor, it's why UCONN wants back into the Big East so it can save its dying basketball recruiting/credibility. Big East had 7 teams in the dance compared to 2 from the AAC. A new conference will be created with the decent leftovers along with the best from the AAC and it will get financial love and cred from ESPN because at least one of the sports in the new conference brings in eyeballs, advertisers and championships, just not as much as a current Power 5 but more than the AAC is currently getting.

An AAC team sure as hell isn't winning a football championship, and you just said it has no basketball cred, so what's the draw going to be?

What you're describing here as the future is pretty much the situation as it already exists, with the AAC as ESPN's favored junior varsity programming but nowhere near Power Conference status either financially or politically.

The Big 12 will dissolve and the remaining pieces like KSU, Kansas, TCU, etc...will merge with the AAC and have the seat at the big table. Oklahoma leaving is not an "if" but a "when". That's the trigger for the next realignment to begin.

The "remaining pieces" will be SOL like the rest of us. That seat at the table simply dissolves along with the Big XII. The P5 membership isn't just going to be passed down to the AAC as if it's the Big XII's eldest son. They're two completely different entities, and the AAC would have no claim.

Best case for them is there are a couple years left on the current playoff contracts when the poop hits the fan, and the mid-major version of the Big XII spends a couple of years as a lame duck on its way out.

5 conferences do not fit into 4 playoff bids. The clock is ticking.

The playoff will expand to 8 within a few years because of the $$$$ it generates. The dollars generated by the playoff comes from ESPN.

ESPN is laying of people one hundred at a time and going broke.

Connect the dots.

Yup, and this doesn't help...
