I'd kill for the Big XII to expand .... by adding 2 schools from Mexico. This board's reaction would be priceless.

If a Canadian college wanted to join the NCAA it would be difficult to play other Canadian teams. You can't practice all summer under NCAA rules then play 2 or 3 games by Canadian rules. Are schools ready to commit to all of their away games being in the US?

I think basketball is different too. I think they use the international 3 point line but I could be mistaken.

If they joined the NCAA, they'd obviously have to play by NCAA rules.

Agreed, but that wasn't the question.

After you subtract 8 conference games (played by NCAA rules), you still have 4 games to fill.
1. You find a Canadian school that plays by NCAA rules.
2. You schedule US teams (NCAA).
3. You find a Canadian school that will come to your place and play by NCAA rules
4. You go to a Canadian school and play by Canadian rules.

#1 is the best option but that is going to take some time.
#2 is expensive and has the same border issues.
#3 & #4 suck. It's like playing basketball by NCAA rules for 4 games, then playing 1 game by international rules, then going back to NCAA rules.
3.

Serious question, "How do the pros handle playing in Canada?"

The Big XII adding 2 schools from Canada and 2 schools from Mexico would be the ultimate F-U to the other 4 power conferences and ESPN

They pre-clear everyone for the border crossings by making sure they have their passports, any sticky background issues are dealt with in advance (ie. DWI/DUI charges), they work in advance to get the temporary work visa for everyone for their trips. The work permit thing the US and Canada have reciprocal agreements for pro athletes for regular and post-season so it's just a quick here are their names thing.

I believe the collective bargaining agreements of the NHL, MLB, and NBA specify that all contracts are in US dollars (no idea about MLS).

This is great fantasy. But Canadians don't really care about college sports.

The men's basketball national championship game had 2,400 people in attendance. That's about what a good US high school team will average throughout the season.
