Softball's down the home stretch
The softball standings are as muddled as ever going into the last weekend of the year.

Louisiana 20-1 39-6
Texas State 17-6 38-11
Georgia State 15-9 30-21
South Alabama 13-12 31-18
Georgia Southern 12-12 24-25
UTA 12-12 26-22
ULM 11-13 29-23
Troy 8-17 20-32
Coastal Carolina 7-16 29-22
Appalachian State 2-19 14-31

Only spots 1 and 10 are locked up. There's essentially three battles taking place.

Texas State and Georgia State are battling for the second seed. Georgia State is going to need some serious help from UTA when they host the Cats, but do have the tie-breaker over the 'cats, winning 2-1 earlier in the year.

Should Georgia State falter, they have the inside track for the third seed, but are battling Georgia Southern, South Alabama and UTA. ULM also has a chance to finish as high as fourth (though that's on paper, as they host the 19-1 Cajuns).

Should the Cajuns sweep ULM, Troy could bump the Warhawks if they sweep USA. Otherwise Troy and Coastal Carolina will be battling it out for 8 and 9. Coastal has an advantage with a three-game home series against 2-19 App.

Potential seeding
Louisiana - locked up the regular season championship
Texas State - second seed and two games up on Georgia State. 1-2 versus Georgia State.
Georgia State - Can finish second or fifth. UTA and USA would need to sweep their rivals in addition to the Panthers getting sweep for that to happen. 2-1 v TXST, UTA and 3-0 v USA. Hosts Georgia Southern.
Geo Southern - plays at Georgia State. 2-1 v UTA and ULM, 0-3 v USA.
USA - 3-0 v ULM, 3-0 v Georgia Southern, 1-2 UTA, 0-3 v Georgia State.
UTA - They really crapped the bed with a doubleheader loss to previously winless-in-SBC App. Has arguably the toughest road of any in this group with Texas State in town. 2-1 v USA and ULM, 1-2 v Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
ULM - Looks likely for a seventh place with the Cajuns on the horizon. They own the tiebreaker with Troy and even if the Trojans sweep USA, they will not fall in the standings. 2-1 v Georgia Southern, 1-2 v UTA, 0-3 v USA.
Troy - They'll either be 8th or 9th. They host USA. 0-3 v Coastal.
Coastal Carolina - Have a great opportunity to move up as they have the tiebreaker over Troy and host App. 3-0 v Troy.
Appalachian State - sole possession of last place. But hey, football.

South took all three games against Ga So and took over fourth place.

RE: Softball's down the home stretch
UTA owns the tie-breaker with USA, so no, they don't own fourth.

According to the Sun Belt standing you are incorrect. They show South with 2 more wins than UTA and have you in sixth place.

Look at the standings in post 1. The SBC is notoriously bad about updating softball standings on the weekend.

You can't be 13-12. The most conference games that can be played to this point is 24, 8 three-game conference series.

I would happily trade places in softball to trade places in football.

You would be wrong again. We have already played one game against Troy. Next week we finish with 2 games against Troy.

This is correct. USA is currently in 4th place with a 13-12 record. Troy cannot sweep USA because we have already played one game 4-5 weeks ago in Mobile and USA beat Troy. The other two games of that series is in Troy this weekend.

In your seeding scenario you still have USA as being 2-1 versus GS, but USA won the series 3-0.

I would like to point out that App took two of three from UTA this past weekend, so we got that, at least.
