OT - ESPN
I wonder what these ESPN on-air "personalities" think about how much ESPN is forking over to the SEC where they're hiring additional coaches and paying assistance millions.

ESPN cuts

Thought this was interesting:

Quote:Of course, the problems ESPN faces are not exclusive to ESPN. It’s not news to anyone that media is a struggling business these days—print, broadcast, and digital. But sports television is especially brutal right now: programming costs keep rising, while viewership is falling. Something has to give.

They don't get it. One reason viewership is falling is because they are squeezing everyone out except the P5. So the G5 are going elsewhere. There was a time when everyone watched ESPN because they felt a part of the big picture. Not anymore. I know there are a lot of changes causing this, but I believe this in a big part of it. I know it's why I no longer watch ESPN. But they'll never get it, in fact, my guess is, it will only make them try harder to make the SEC the only relevant conference.

I had no idea they had 100 'on air' personalities.

That is about 93 more than I could name.

There's definitely something to this. It's not their only issue and maybe not their biggest, but it's significant. Fans of a given team don't just start passionately following another because you tell them to. They just quit watching.

A lot of folks who used to watch Gameday and ESPN's other college-related programming religiously simply aren't motivated to watch the same handful of schools they care little about at best and often carry disdain for get verbally fellated over & over. Sure, the network is making the larger segment of potential viewers more loyal to them, but it's at the cost of another collectively sizable segment ceasing to GAF.

That's why I quit watching ESPN. I will watch some games, but none of their shows.

Ed Werder is no longer employed by ESPN. So far, he is the only name I recognize. And that is probably because he has been there so long. I remember watching him do lots of NFL work.

My wife turns on SportsCenter in the morning because she thinks my son wants to watch it when he's eating breakfast (he doesn't- he doesn't watch TV at all, neither do his friends). The morning Sportscenter is horrible. The content is apparently for what they think millennials want to watch, and apparently they think millennials all are tree-hugging liberals, all love hip-hop, and all have the attention span of a gnat. Then a promo comes on for the "new" SportsCenter in the late afternoon, and it looks like it is even worse, if that is possible.

May is an asshat.

He would fit in well here.

In January 1979, as a sophomore at Pitt, May was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, inciting a riot, and making terroristic threats. May reportedly was jumping on top of parked cars, threatening police officers and encouraging a crowd of onlookers to fight the officers. He was found guilty of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, while the other charges were dismissed.

As a member of the Redskins, May was twice arrested for DUI. The second instance occurred in March 1990, and the first in 1985 in Arlington, Virginia.

RE: OT - ESPN
Dumbasses... Took this long to figure this out?

Quote:ESPN is adapting to the realities facing all media companies: consumers only want to consume the content they want, and increasingly they want to consume it on a phone, computer, or tablet, not a television, and they don’t want to pay to get something they don’t want. You would think these maxims are obvious by now, but much of the cable industry is built on the opposite—bundling channels together for a fat monthly fee. Yahoo Finance Editor-in-Chief Andy Serwer put it well on our live show this week: “Because they’ve been part of the bundle, a lot of people have been paying for ESPN who don’t want to watch it. That’s not a great business model, people paying for something they don’t want.”

Agree......Russillo survived the cuts and will be back on the air solo on Monday. He apparently renegotiated his contract so he could stay.

And hats off to Linda Cohn for sayn that politics had a small percentage of influence with the layoffs......

So I ask......57 year old Linda Cohn......yes or no?
