Happy for him but how did that happen ? I do not ever recall him playing much save for a few downs when an extra receiver was needed or or one was injured.

He went and played for Fedora at UNC for a while, then for some minor school... can't remember what school, but it was in the NAIA or DIII or the other division of CUSA or something

At Univ. Northern Colorado (maybe that's the UNC you were thinkin' about), Atlanta's (GA) Kyle Sloter set records for most TD passes in a year (29) and game (6) and yards in a game (438)...

Not so sure he went to UNC for Fedora - I think the UNC is The University of Northern Colorado.

Everyone, I apologize for the bad info. UNC != Fedora's UNC.

wasnt good enough to play QB here. interesting. i know he was behind mullens, but if had kept him at QB, maybe he would have stuck around. been a better backup than keon last year and wouldn't have had to burn the red shirt. guy must be a pretty damn good QB to get invited to an NFL team. he had good size from what i remember. happy for him!

There are only two viable industries in the Hattiesburg-Seminary-Lumberton metropolitan area: educating people and doing research. Unfortunately, the people who control these industries (the citizenry of the whole state of Mississippi) do not seem to care about these things. They do care about football, but football is at best semi-viable in Hattiesburg now, and IHL has completely botched that anyway.

Funny, the largest employer (and three of the top six) in the area does neither of those. But their business is extremely viable.

So having those three large medical providers in Hattiesburg is a bad thing. Gotcha.

RE: Kyle Sloter to Broncos
While it's not bad to have hospitals, I would say that they're not a very good basis for a region's economy. I mean, if you're only customers are locals who really don't have any choice but to use your product, or die, then you're not exactly putting your best foot forward. More formally, you're not allocating your resources optimally. Moreover, FGH, etc., no doubt get much of their income from Medicare and Medicaid, so it's not much of a stretch to consider them as part of the public sector.
Hattiesburg is very fortunate to have USM. I do not think, though, that the local powers really work well with the University to tap its economic value. They get caught in the trap of small-time, us-vs.-them Mississippi thinking, e.g. short-sightedly voting down taxes that would help USM.
