USM freshman Matt Wallner with his 14th HR of the season as part of that 8 run top of the 9th. Who else is he contending with for Freshman of the Year??

as a FYI to everyone in our conference.......you need to watch this guy if you get the chance......

he's a future stud of different proportions - 6' 6" 235 with a stroke like Bonds sans the 'roids....

you shut-up and watch when goes to the plate.....

The Berryballers brought some of that Pete Taylor Park magic to the Nashville suburbs this evening.

Would be neat if "the other player" was a Ted Williams or a Joe DiMaggio and not, say, Rube Novotney of the Cubs..

Rendon was probably the best college player I've seen live in person.

One of those guys where you held your breath every time he was at the plate. Always felt like he had a chance to launch one.

Charlotte really let one get away on Friday night. 11 runners LOB and lost 3-2. Laws got his 1st loss of the season.

A sweep would have been nice but, we are pretty much in the same position with tie- breaker as we were last week. The 4 seed, but now 2 games out of 1st. RPI went up to 49 by taking 2 of 3 from UAB.

Of course Rice is coming in this weekend, probably playing the best they've played all year. Should be a good series.

So question for those who know more about the rules than I do.....it was mentioned during the weather delay that if the game resumed and then the rain starts back up to the point the tarp was needed that the game would be called. My question is while USM was batting in the top of the 9th and took the lead, had lightning or rain started back up and the game was called, would the game revert back to the last completed inning (USM was trailing 8-5 after the 8th) or would the game be final at the point it was called in the top of the 9th after USM had scored the go ahead runs? I was thinking if it reverted back to the 8th how bad that would've sucked to rally back and take the lead only for it to be negated due to the weather. TIA

We lost our Sunday starter, Zach Flanagan, in the MTSU series last week. Freshman Matt Brooks took his spot on Sunday and looked pretty good. 5 shutout innings at UAB.

Regulation Game
Section 8(b)
It shall be a regulation game if called by the umpire at any time after five
innings have been completed, and the score shall be that of the last equal
inning played, except that in the following circumstances the score of the
game shall be the total number of runs that each team has scored:
1) If the team second at bat has scored more runs at the end of its fourth
inning than the team first at bat has scored in five completed innings;
2) If the team second at bat has scored in an unequal number of innings
more runs than the team first at bat; or
3) If the team second at bat is at bat when the game is called and has scored
in the incomplete inning the same number of runs or more runs than the
team first at bat.
4) By conference rule, or mutual consent of both coaches before the
beginning of the contest, a game may be stopped after seven innings if
one team is ahead by at least 10 runs.
Each team must play an equal number of innings unless shortened because
the home team needs none or only part of its half of the final inning.

Talk about a possible gut wrenching loss had the weather came back into play then. Thanks for the responses.

That's a ridiculous rule. Play the game. If weather ends it, whatever the score is should be the final score. I was thinking about this as soon as we tied it up...."please no lightening strikes! please no more rain!"

I could see it, regardless of the teams, where the home team gives up the lead but realizes rain is going to be there shortly so once they give up the lead in the top of the inning they start changing pitchers after every possible batter in an attempt to slow down the game and let the rain set in.

One last one as well.......the Charlotte at UAB game was callled in the bottom of the 6th with Charlotte leading 3-0 and UAB had the bases loaded with 2 out. Imagine the feeling had UAB hit a grand slam to take the 4-3 lead (or even a bases clearing double to tie it) only for the rain/lightning to come right after the "potential" hit to tie or take the lead. I realize it works both ways and it is already determined and not something that was made up along the way but talk about a brutal way of possibly losing a game.
