How do you honor your NFL players?
Charlotte is about to get its first NFL draftee when Larry Ogunjobi is selected. Do you have signs, banners, etc. in your stadium acknowledging players that made it to, or are playing in, the NFL? Our fans want to honor Ogunjobi for this exciting achievement, but we realize this will happen again, hopefully soon. So, what is appropriate? What do you do?

By the way, this could not happen to a better kid. Larry has worked really hard to get here, and he is also a double-major in Computer Science and Biology who hopes to go to medical school after football. Keep your fingers crossed with us that he ends up with the right team.

Here is a great article on Larry.

RE: How do you honor your NFL players?
Tech used to have 3 banners; one for each of their Pro Football Hall of Famers (Terry Bradshaw, Fred Dean, & Willie Roaf)but they were taken down during construction of the new press box and probably won't go back up

WKU puts up banners outside the stadium to honor Pro Toppers. They change periodically with what players are on the banners.

Each one of our NFL players has a glass plaque on the wall in our Football Operations Center inside Paulson Stadium. The blank plaques at the bottom are mostly symbolic for recruits.

UAB's NFLer's are going to be honored on a display in the lobby area of the new Football Operations Center to open this July (seen on the right side of this rendering).

Rice does a few things:

-Former All-Americans have their name written on the bottom of the upper deck.
-Current NFL players have their own locker in our locker room, complete with a nameplate and everything.
-Each year, two or three (not always former pros but a lot of the time) senior players switch their jersey numbers to honor a past Owl great.

Very likely soon. Probably will rename Eagle Walk.

WKU also does similar to the picture showed above at UAB. All of the WKU NFL players have a display in the operations center lobby.

You forgot that Rice makes sure they are so anonymous, they can attend statistics classes without anyone realizing they are an active NFL player! There was an old news report on James Casey finishing classes at Rice (he graduated after 6 semesters as a triple-major with a 3.6 GPA!) after he started playing for the Texans. They showed him in a statistics class and after class asked a couple of students and the professor if they realized he was an NFL player. None of them did.

Couldn't find the video, but it was hilarious.

I think that is somewhat of an anomaly.

Everyone knows Christian Covington when he comes back to campus (which is quite often).

You could name an intersection Brett Favre INT.

While were at it, does LT have a street called Karl Malone Drive? And if not, why the hell not?

Well we have Karl Malone Court at the Thomas Assembly Center, so there's that. The only street named after someone on campus that I can think of off the top of my head is our last president, who retired in 2013 after being here since the Stone Ages essentially.

Nope. We don't name our streets after athletes.

We kick them off of the sidelines with security personnel, shut down their buffet tent while doing so... oh, and put beloved coaches in the nosebleed section on the goal line in cold and rainy weather.
