Michael Smith is actually not bad, I just don't think he's in the right spot program wise.

Dr. Jerry Punch (NASCAR, college football reporter) is also gone from the Mothership.

RE: ESPN to Cut 100 or so Jobs today
They've fired a lot of real reporters in favor of keeping screaming idiots... Who makes these decisions?

They should replace all these screaming "personalities" with actual content (I can think of a conference they can get for probably less than they were paying a few of those folks), and keep the best of the real reporters for serious weekly journalism shows and an occasional or regular sports center segment.

And please please fire Screamin a Smith. How does that guy have a job?

They probably need to make room for new personalities since they seem to be switching from Sports to politics and social issues. They seem to want to push that agenda more than actually report on sports.03-banghead

Only if you want to watch a P5 program. Like I said earlier I haven't watch 2 P5 conference schools go at it going on 8 years now. I watch Marshall and if Marshall isn't playing I look for a CUSA game if that's not happening then I look for a good G5, IAA or DII game on. There is always one somewhere and its not always ESPN.

That's one of many reasons ESPN is hemorrhaging. They show crap shows like that. Plus all the other crap shows they have lined up. Not enough sports being shown.

30 for 30 and SportsCenter are the only good shows.

100% This.

Which is also why we need to be proactive NOW, get our act together and make this CUSA TV streaming service a major priority.

Look, it really sucks to see this many people lose their job at ESPN.

The only thing I take solace in is proving all the AACk fans wrong. The money's not there from ESPN. TV is in a major state of instability, and it's too early for any real streaming partner to take a gamble in a multi-million dollar sports streaming investment.

And if ESPN won't pay, neither will NBC, CBS, Fox, Netflix, YouTube...no one.

It's insane to think they will get anything close to what they have now in 2019.

And many of them have maintained the stance that their per school TV revenue will GO UP!

Last point, and I hate to admit this. It may be time to take the regional approach with our league.

Hate it, but travel being what it is, budgets being what they are...it's tough.

unless I bet on the game (and I rarely bet on p5 games), you couldn't pay me to flip to that channel unless my StL Cards or Blues were playing....

they're annoyingly scripted and now have the token female in almost every booth.....

I'm watching the intermission report with my Blues down 1-0.....and the guys on NBCSN as always as solid as they come.....

those dipshites at the espenis have zero clue other than knowing how to spew bs rhetoric.....

Amen to this!

Games, Events (like NCAA selection shows, the NFL Draft), SC, "30 for 30" -- and I'd add "Outside the Lines" -- are what I watch on ESPN.

Talking heads? Never.

They show highlights on FS1. But I think ESPN went away from that format once video became such an integral part of the internet. I don't know about anyone else but I would watch sportscenter back in the day waiting for them to show highlights of my team's games. I didnt mind seeing others but it was my teams that made me wait for them to be shown. Now, we can just go to a number of places and see them instantly.

They moved away from the highlights to debate, brought on by the early success of shows like PTI and Around the Horn, as an attempt to adapt to the changing times. But they forgot about the importance of moderation and likability. They overdid it with annoying talking heads like Stephen A. And now, pretty much all they have is a bunch of blowhards arguing.

Yea 30 for 30, NCAA national playoffs they have the rights to. Tons of good college football games every Saturday, Bowls, NBA playoffs, Monday night football, College Baseball, etc.

But yea if you're not interested in that stuff then I understand. I love waking up and watching good CF games or College Basketball.

It appears in their cutbacks, espn favored retaining loud mouths instead of actual competence in reporting. SJWs are in charge and doubling down. ESPN's fall will be something enjoyable to see. Well deserved.

My thoughts 100%. I can remember watching Sportscenter back to back to back over and over with no problem. The last several years I'm not sure I've watched a College Gameday or Sportscenter due to more talking and less highlights. I agree videos are now accessible 24/7 but I'm not gonna tune in just to listen to talking heads arguing and screaming at each other for 30-60 minutes...period.
