Quick update. Sorry to hijack the C-USA Board again...but!!

Wanted to let Rice fans know that my daughter is a freshman at Rice. She loves it. O-week has been awesome. My family even loved Houston. I had never been there and had heard horror stories from other (mainly Austin and Dallas residents) over the years.

And let me be clear: I am now a Rice fan (will still root for FIU over all other, though). Great school. Great kids. Great education. Beautiful campus. She is glad she picked Rice over Johns Hopkins and UF.

Looking forward to the Rice/FIU game. I've already booked my flight. God-willing, I will be there for the game.

That's awesome! Congrats! My inlaws and my dad both live in the Houston area and joke that they want my son (he's only 8) to go to Rice. If he can't get into a good school like Louisiana Tech then Rice would be an ok safety school I guess

Seriously though you should be very proud. I'm hoping to make the Tech -Rice game this year, but I don't know if my Wife's schedule will allow it.

Mixed loyalties are fine. I was a TCU fan except when they played Rice.

But the toughest situation i ever heard of was this:

Rice has a tradition of electing non traditional Homecoming Queens, and one year it was a secretary in one of the athletic offices. Her son played for Texas A&M. Our homecoming game was against Texas A&M.

My family (minus my daughter) will be the ones sporting the FIU gear at the football game in September. Now that I think about it, my wife will probably now wear Rice gear as she doesn't care about sports one way or the other. She may be an FIU grad as well, but she's mother hen first and will probably want to support her daughter's school. That leaves me and my son.

Other years the student body elected a refrigerator and a dog homecoming queen.

During my time, they elected a guy homecoming queen, which was *way* over the top for times. Cotton Bowl officials got really upset and refused to let the selection in the Cotton Bowl parade. But being the genteel winner, the male selection resigned the position prior to the parade to allow the 2nd place 'conformist' selection to be placed in the Cotton Bowl parade.

But then the athletic department muscled in and got veto power over the (admittedly rigged) 'selection'. I had heard that the voted selection for the next year was a stove, but the administration 'selected' one of the cheerleaders in its place.

I had heard that they elected the Nobel Laureate Richard Smalley as homecoming queen in the interim, as well as a ferret at some point as well.

As far as we know, none of the selections above were related to any players on the opposing team, except maybe the refrigerator.
