Interviewd this morning .... Appears to be pretty much positive party line type answers ... Interesting comments about Budgets for P5 schools

http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sp...100886352/

fter a tumultuous six weeks for the Memphis men's basketball program, university President David Rudd spoke publicly for the first time about the wave of transfers since coach Tubby Smith's first season ended during a radio interview with Greg Gaston on Sports56 WMBQ on Tuesday.

Loser, should have hired Pearl, we would be going to the sweet 16 this year, just like he took Auburn.

When Pearl's showclause was up, I thought he would be a good hire. I am not happy we did not hire him.

that was never going to happen. Memphis will only hire squeaky clean coaches from now on...guys like Pastner and Tubby.

Actually I made a "typo" I did not mean to include NOT in that sentence. I meant to say.....

I am HAPPY we did not hire him. It was a good thing he is at Auburn and not here at Memphis.

Your sarcasm meter is broken. There was a clue with the "just like he took Auburn" line, Auburn didn't go to the sweet 16, they are around .500.

The yawning funding gap cited by Dr Rudd between the Black Bears and Memphis in just the last five years illustrates the G-5 schools' immense competative disadvantages. The Black Bears and their ilk can pour resources into sports like basketball and still have sufficient money for football.

I thought it was a pretty decent take from Dr. Rudd. Bowen's previous statement was so infuriating to so many people because it demonstrated that our AD either (a) is blissfully ignorant about the negative public perception of the program's ongoing issues, or (b) thinks we're all a bunch of idiots who won't understand that 6 transfers in one year is a bad thing. As far as I can remember, this may have been the first time someone at the UofM has at least publicly acknowledged the basketball program's problems and PR gaffes.

Interesting.

Dr Rudd did acknowledge his own mistake when he publicly admitted that inviting Calipari to be honored in the Forum was a bad idea.
