The program is great. Top 25 rated. Great, passionate fan base. Great facilities. Hotbed of local talent.

I want people to stop confusing Tubby with the program.

Tubby is an interloper. He's here for 4 more years max. Probably 2 more years by the looks of things.

The program doesn't start or end with Tubby

BTW, tell me about all the great things Tubby is doing for the community

Mediocre,
Mediocre,
Mediocre,

For those who were beotching about what you claim were mediocre teams the last 2 Pastner years will get a clearer idea of exactly what a mediocre team looks like.

You sound like a Pastner fan, not a Memphis fan.

I've been saying this in different words for a long time. How anyone can have this weird love affair for a coach that was at best "MEDIOCRE" is beyond me.

not a pastner fan at all, by any stretch of the imagination...these seasons kind of all look, well....

Nobody's doubting that Coach Smith hasn't had a great career. But it's been a little while since he's done anything better than what you are calling "mediocre"...I would love to see what Coach Smith would do with some of the talent Josh had while he was here. My concern, however, is he's never going to get that level of talent.

I do realize that he was at Minnesota and Texas Tech. But, that first year at Minnesota was better than what last year here was. Don't forget he got fired at Minnesota.

It's awesome to be optimistic. I guess my concerns are that it's been 14 years since Coach Smith has had a season that we would be happy with and advanced past the first weekend, and that was at Kentucky. Obviously we are a better program than Tech and Minnesota, but no one is arguing we are in the same stratosphere as Kentucky. The last two years at Kentucky look a lot like the average Pastner year.

Keep in mind "3rd round" is now the second day of the tournament. It's been 14 years since he's advanced to the sweet 16.

2005–06 Kentucky 22–13 9–7 6th NCAA Second Round
2006–07 Kentucky 22–12 9–7 4th NCAA Second Round
2007–08 Minnesota 20–14 8–10 6th NIT First Round
2008–09 Minnesota 22–11 9–9 T–7th NCAA First Round
2009–10 Minnesota 21–14 9–9 6th NCAA First Round
2010–11 Minnesota 17–14 6–12 9th
2011–12 Minnesota 23–15 6–12 T–9th NIT Runner-up
2012–13 Minnesota 21–13 8–10 T–7th NCAA Third Round
2013–14 Texas Tech 14–18 6–12 9th
2014–15 Texas Tech 13–19 3–15 10th
2015–16 Texas Tech 19–13 9–9 7th NCAA First Round
2016–17 Memphis 19–13 9–9 T–5th

I think the people that are calling it "realism" are saying that our program is better than the results we are seeing thus far.

8.3ppg and 4.3 rpg at Juco and didn't start a game.

Injured... he was good enough for NM

Is this our bar for comparison? Have expectations really fallen this far? If he is good enough for a bad New Mexico program then by all means...

They've had a pretty good program over the years. 4 ncaas in the last 6 years...

No, they have not been good. They have been 3 times in the last 6 years. However, they have been to 0 in the most recent 3 years and no NIT... When Alford was there they were "good" by New Mexico standards (3 NCAA appearances in 6 years but never better than the 2nd round).

If your goal is just averaging an NCAA tournament appearance every other year and never going beyond the 2nd round then New Mexico is a good program to use as a baseline...

I guess it is a matter of perspective. I would state that people who are okay with the program as it has been are "pissing" on the program... Most fans have much higher expectations then missing than completely missing the post season, losing our best 3 players and not seemingly replacing them with anywhere near equal talent.

I think it is important to distinguish that most people (at least not me) do not see a high ceiling for our high school recruits. However, it is likely 3 years away (their JR years) before they are ready to lead and carry the program. In the meantime, we have 2 more years of plugging holes and mediocrity. Call the fan base impatient but it should not take 4 years to turn around and build a basketball program like Memphis back...

No apology needed but you'll have to wait and see what "really" happens as the season plays out. As we all will.

We have already lost our first 5 games and the Exhibition to CBU. So it is written, so it shall be done. In game 2, we lost 62-10. Jeremiah Martin led the team in scoring with 3 points. On a positive note, Big Mike hauled in 6 rebounds and Kareem Brewton had an assist.

Everyone complaining about Tubby's recruiting last year would have been happy to have all these 6'7", 6'8", 6'9" guys coming in -- or at least, that's what they said then.

Ok. Let's get the facts straight.

Freshman Year: 8.3ppg and 4.3 rpg at Juco and didn't start a game. [1]

Sophomore Year: 8.9ppg and 4.0 rpg at JUCO, while only averaging 19.4 min per game. Started every game. [2]

Please stop talking smack about a kid. He's going to contribute on this team next year. He might not start but he's going to prove depth if we run like Tubby claims.

He had an offer from NM, and this late in the year it's good to pick up any big. We could of used a guy like him last year. If fact, we missed on Ngor Barnaba who started over him his freshman year at Missouri State-West Plains.

I know he's going to average 4 and 2, in 14 minutes next year. But that's going to help.

Is posting stats talking smack?

If the stats are correct, it would help.

First he averaged 9 in HS, which was wrong, then he never started a game in JuCo, which was also wrong. Next he's gonna have a hook for a hand and two club feet.

Hawthorne, their leading rebounder, signed with MTSU.

Sikes, their leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder, signed with South Alabama.

Their 3rd leading rebounder has been offered by Nichols State.

Their 11 and 5 guy (2nd leading scorer, 4th leading rebounder), Emanuel Thompson, signed with Morehead State.

Their 9 and 4 guy (3rd leading scorer and 6th leading rebounder), Mike Parks, signed with the University of Memphis.

No one is saying the guy has to come in and lead the team in scoring.

I don't know anything about those other guys and don't really care. I will wager that Mike Parks Jr's production exceeds Chad Rykhoek's by a wide margin.

I realize that aint saying much, but that's all we're looking for here.

Yep, that Tubby's got an eye. Imagine all those other coaches passing on Mike. They will rue the day!

LOL, seriously dude, he's a backup center to an Egyptian. When did all those other teams sign their "targets?" There's a difference. He wasn't one of our targets, but it's almost time to start practice, and we need 10 bodies.

If Tubby hires someone's dad to get them to play and things go bad and we end up replacing almost our entire team again as a result, I'll blame him this time.
