RE: Orlando Sentinel Countdown
And here is what Matt Brown of SoE thinks of Cincy.

QUOTE
76. Cincinnati. If nothing else, Cincinnati's coach won't be screaming at fans to "GET A JOB." Longtime Ohio State assistant Luke Fickell will try to revive the Bearcats, who have won nine-plus games in seven of the past 10 seasons but fell to 4-8 with a lifeless offense.
END QUOTE

Wow! Preseason rankings! 118 vice 76. Hell of a spread. Maybe splitting the difference at 97 would be the best call. 03-lmfao

Honestly, really unexpected. He has Cinci worse than teams such as Idaho, Miami (OH), Indiana, Purdue, FIU, FAU, RUTGERS (seriously?), Boston College...

I think this is a typical wtf pick by murschell. He has no basis behind his picks, and the only rationale behind it, sometimes, seems to be to cause controversy. There've been plenty in the past regarding other conferences. He tends to be wrong more often than not.

Teams in bold went to bowl games last year. Cincinnati did not. Don't see the problem here.

Right now, all I'm gathering from this is that our bottom programs may be better then the other G5 bottom programs.

We need our middle and top programs to also be better. This season, I think C-USA will be one of the top 2 G5 conferences. We have some programs moving in the right direction. I could see C-USA finishing with 8 or maybe 9 bowl eligible teams (WKU, LA Tech, MTSU, Southern Miss, North Texas, UTSA, ODU, Marshall, and maybe one of the Florida teams or Charlotte).

I don't know about 8-9 bowl games, but yes, CUSA football is definitely trending upward overall.

I totally noticed the bottom of C-USA getting "yanked" up this past season. Both ODU and Charlotte surprised me. This bodes really well for C-USA long-term. Some signature OOC wins are desperately needed.

With UCONN and Cincy down towards the bottom, it is more difficult to see how they make their case to the Big 12. I guess they remains bridesmaids for a while longer.

I think history has shown that current football quality, when it comes to realignment, isn't as important as you're suggesting.

Where was Charlotte football ranked when you were invited to CUSA?

C-USA has to take care of business when playing beatable AAC opponents like SMU, Cincinnati, Tulane, and post-Tom Herman Houston.

There's a difference between a program and a team. A team exists in a single academic year. The program includes all factors from markets, revenues, intangibles, strength of all programs, location, etc.

No one is making a case right now. B12 isn't adding before the end of TV n Gor. and probably not even then.

If I were a fan of any of the schools listed so far, I would not be concerned. This poll is always fun to follow this time of year since real football is months away but it's not to be taken too seriously. I can't afford to take it seriously because my school will be on the list sooner rather than later.

After Illinois came in at 120, I predicted either Rice or UTEP to make the list in the next five picks. Guess that means tomorrow we see one of them make their entry. If not, I'm thinking maybe ULM is up next for the Sun Belt. Hey, you never know, it might be East Carolina for the AAC. Or -- we could see another P5 team. Purdue maybe?

Is this fun or what? Only 117 more days until Stanford v. Rice! In Australia no less!

Uncle Matt relies heavily (to a fault) on a team's record from the previous year. Cincy crashed the last half the season last year to go 4-8. I don't expect them to be that bad this year. SoE has them at 76, and I believe that is likely to be much more accurate than the Sentinel's 118.
