2011 we went 7-1 in Sun Belt and won 7 out of our last 8 games, so just 2 really bad seasons not 3...That rough start was well worth it to win Back to Back CUSA titles wouldn't you say? When the butterflies are back to back CUSA champions then we can talk, in meantime you guys still have a lot of work to do to get to the next level...

If you told me before we joined FBS we would be back to back conference champions 8 years after we made the jump to FBS, I would glady take 2 seasons of sucking and so would you...We made a quick turn around and those days are long forgotten to where we can laugh about it now.....

I don't give a **** about someone from outside reporting whether a fanbase is happy or sad all i am trying to do is apply your own logic to your situation. We ODU fans are definitely not miserable and i am personally very very happy that we have FB now even if it means i have to make frequent trips to Norfolk wading through the Atlanta traffic in FB season.

even if its true that tends to happen when you have more fans. I am not really comparing fb histories here. I am only replying to your beat down comment that when you are new and transitioning **** happens and you are not an exception and hence pointing to you that WKU was nothing but a door mat from 08 to 10 and honestly ODU did a better transition than you did so yeah i wouldn't trade places even if you have won the last two championships. Who knows what you have in store this year or for that matter in future.

A few things about those years...good and bad. Past and present.

Western thought (mistakenly) the talent difference was not that great from 1AA to SBC football. While at some spots that would be correct. Overall size and depth and skill was a huge difference.

Western lost a lot of games in the 4th qter after leading. That's the depth part. That was redshirting whole classes. That also paid off big in later years and still today.

But sitting in those stands game after game was Misery. It reached a low point on Sep 17, 2011 in a total embarrassment, beatdown, by Indiana St. I remember leaving that game and saying....

this program is dead. Will never recover from that loss...not in my lifetime

Funny how things changed in a short amount of time. Went from one of the lowest points I can remember for Western sports. To a turn around that has Western on the cusp of being one of the top G5 programs of the future. Of course a lot of building on the last few years still needs to take place.

But to go from losing 16-44 to Indiana St. to turning that season around with 7 wins then win 7, 8,8, 12,11 wins and back to back conference championships....

can be laid at the feet of those 26 losses Western took all in a row.

But if anyone asked me how I felt on Sep 17, 2011 around 9pm. Misery would be looking up at what I just saw. I honestly thought Western as a FBS program...was dead

I would like to point out that we should be dead last in the list. RICE won the conference championship a few years ago. Marshall had a good run prior to last season. North Texas has made two bowl games in the last four years and seem to be trending up. Charlotte is young but already caught up to us.

As far as UTEP we've had to endure losing season year after year. We haven't won a bowl game in 50 years. We haven't beat a P5 team in half a century. We have one conference championship to our name. If that's not misery and deserving of last place then I don't know what is.

Which fanbase is complaining in this thread? Anytime there's a puff piece where ODU comes out on top you all lose your minds. I guess I would complain too when I see a national outlet like ESPN still thinks your fanbase isn't happiest in the conference after back to back titles. This piece is all about perception. I'm sure you are very happy, it doesn't mean that's what they think of you.

My former daughter-in-law is one of those diehard hard ISU fans. I think they get that way because everybody in Iowa is either for Iowa or Iowa State, so the fever bubbles all year round.

I attended a Rice-ISU game in Ames. My son sat between me and his wife, and the entire time never rooted for either team by name, just a constant mantra of "Go, team".

Having lived in Iowa for awhile, the general view is that the Univ of Iowa fans are a little snooty with their B1G attitude toward Iowa State though ISU is the academic research powerhouse of the state thanks to the USDA.
