RE: DC: QB Battle Now Three Man Battle
If the coaches are seeing a QB establishing themselves as the #1 why, at this point, would they want to make that known? Let all the QBs leave camp with the thought that they have a real shot at being #1; work their butts off over the next few months getting ready for the start of fall camp. Then roll the balls out in July and let the best man win. Based on the order of play yesterday, Santa appears to be the #1; this means nothing other than he probably had the best camp; Again, yesterday was nothing more than another practice. I like the competition; it will help each get better. One thing is for sure; for the sake of the kid, you can put the "burn the shirt campaign" to rest. He needs every bit of a redshirt year.

I just want somebody to step up and be a legit, consistent QB who gives us a chance to win. If it's Childers great, but any of them will do as long as they take the next step.

I don't think any of the Qb's played very well, but I agree that Childers looked the best, had bad moments, threw a pick, but overall looked the most confident and smooth out there.

Just went back and rewatched Childers' HS tape...kid definitely feels the game and is very quick. Exciting development if he emerges as the guy.

It sounds like he might be a JL prototype. One can hope.

At this point, I think they need to open up summer camp with Childers running as the #1 and see what happens. Graham has had his chances to separate himself and it sounds like Santa was given a pretty good opportunity this spring as well. The fact that Childers wasn't even in the conversation a month ago to now being right in the mix is very telling about the performance of Graham and Santa. Give the kid the reps!

Looking forward it would certainly be nice to be going with either Santa or Childers. The good news is that all three of them should be putting in a ton of work over the next three months.

I think the best news from this and then offering Bolin is Carey and company aren't sitting back and accepting status quo at the position. It certainly appears they know Graham isn't good enough and they're looking at all possible options.

With luck we can spend half of the upcoming season trying to sort out the true legitimate QB, only for him to get injured. (sarcasm)

Yep thought the same thing. Somewhat changing up his past coaching style IMO.

RE: DC: QB Battle Now Three Man Battle
I think what is most important is what we don't know. Specifically, how the QB's did throughout the entire camp, not the rather lame scrimmage that took place Saturday. Going into the start of camp we had a clear #1; Maddie, we all know what happened then. The number 2 spot was between Graham and Santa. It appeared that Santa got the first team reps, which may point to him having the best camp. Graham took second team reps, Childers 3rd. It is very clear that there is a significant drop after these 3. We leave camp with all 3 knowing they have a shot at the #1. I think that is very positive. Graham still knows the Offense better than any other QBs, something well worth considering. I too looked at Childers HS tape, and he has definite potential. I also viewed Santa's HS tape. He appears to have some unique athletic ability that the others may not have. I am looking forward to seeing how this pans out...history says we will likely need all 3.

I believe they have always looked to upgrade the QB position since Lynch left. Just last year they had Collins from Oregon State transferring here. He backed out and stayed at Oregon State. The coaching staff was trying to upgrade, it just didn't work out.

Which QB do you want leading the team if it is late in the 4th quarter and you need a drive for a field goal or TD?
Do you have confidence in any of them?
I sure hope we find one.

I saw Ryan Graham try to lead a game winning drive once. He had Blake open for a TD and under threw him by 5 yards and got picked off.

If Childers were to win the #1 spot, I wonder if they would use Santa like they used Lynch when Harnish was QB. I suppose not, but it would be interesting.

Is there really much of a difference between putting Santa in in those spots instead of just running wildcat with Huff or Mister taking a direct snap? I'm all for having the QBs take less hits after the last few years, I just don't know if using Santa or just going wildcat is the better option.
For the record, judging off of high school highlights (scientific, I know) I think Childers is a better runner than Santa. On the flip side, letting Santa on the field occasionally maybe keeps him from transferring and gets him more prepared for when all of our QBs inevitably die.

I was thinking of it from the standpoint of Childers taking a few less hits, and of course, as a QB he's still a threat to throw, plus it keeps him in the game at least a little. But you make a good point, just throwing that out there.

Just hand the ball off a little more. I don't think you need to take the QB out of the game.
Santa can play in mop up time and with our schedule he will have a good chance of seeing the field in the first 4 game.
