Another Bad Year For UT Sports
Although spring isn't over, it looks highly unlikely the any UT sports will win a MAC title this season. That would make women's basketball as the only MAC champions for the school year.
And last year there were no champions. Sixteen sports with one title over two years. That's 32 opportunities to win with one championship.
Unfortunately, it's not unusual for the Rockets. We used to be able to count on women's CC, soccer and maybe swimming to bring home a trophy, but those programs have seen better days. We also have numerous programs that have never won a MAC title.
Each year the MAC gives out the Reese Trophy for the top men's athletic program based on points earned from how it placed in each sponsored sport, and the Jacoby Trophy for women.
The Reese Trophy has been given out since 1958, and UT has never won. The Jacoby Trophy has been awarded since 1983, and Toledo has won once.
It certainly wouldn't be an overstatement to say that Toledo has the worst sports program in the MAC. The question is, does anyone care? My guess is no.

If you think no one cares..... then why sound like a little ***** about it? No one thumps there chest about winning a Reese or Jacoby Trophy.

True...but they thump their chest when they win MAC titles and earn NCAA bids. Neither of which has happened in years except one by women's BB.

I just want to see our football program win a MAC championship, and would love to see a big-time initiative to invest and invest BIG in the football program, as football is the only sport that will bring us any lasting national prestige.

Not sure we're worse than everyone- depends on your definition. When we won the Jacoby I think we won men's hoops as well, so four or five championships that year, IIRC. Did that make us the best program? My guess is BSU, EMU, Miami and maybe some others would be happy to switch for our success in football and hoops.

It is disappointing to say the least. I understand that many people look at Toledo as a leader in the MAC, the sad truth is that we have been towards the bottom for many years.
Thankfully our football team has had some pretty good seasons (still no MAC championship) We easily have one of the best game day experiences and have a very recognizable brand thanks to our football team.
The other sports have just been awful. There really is no debate about it. If it was not for our football and women's basketball team we would be the laughing stock of the conference regarding athletics.
I am a huge UT and Rocket supporter but something needs to change. The current athletic administration is ok with sub par and they always will be. We have an incredible university and our athletic teams are not doing a good enough job of representing it. I hope the future gets better, the fans of UT deserve a top notch athletic department.
Go Rockets!

Rockets have been about #6 in the MAC In Athletic spending. That according to the
2014-15 MAC Athletic Dept. released a year ago. I think the Men's BB program is in better shape than most on this Board do. Garber's injury had a lot with this season's record. I like what's coming in for 2017-18.

Quick! Just grab those rose colored glasses and super size your next round of blue and gold Kool-Aid and everything will seem a bit more palatable.

Ummm none !! Plus we will never know... But, I think it's a safe bet that mens wrestling would be a power in the MAC... You do know that Missouri is in the MAC (wrestling) - not bad company huh ??

RE: Another Bad Year For UT Sports
My sense is that over the last 20 years UT is not at the bottom of the MAC in terms of total athletic program success, but that many people who follow the Rockets think UT sports are much better than they really are if you look simply at performance results. Football and basketball draw well and are competitive year to year, appears that is enough to keep many people happy (certainly not the posters here!). Into the future I just do not see much more in the way of focus growth, efforts, budgets, spending and fund raising to really make UT the best or among top 3 MAC schools year after year across multiple sports. UT will be competitive, and in many sports have chances to (and actually succeed) in an occasional playoff run or contend for championship (with a few wins across all sports), but doubt we will be a MAC sports powerhouse. Whatever opportunities may have existed to reach and sustain that level are in my view long gone. Is really too bad and perhaps hard reality but likely the truth. If nothing happened over the last 20 years to change that status quo in terms of expectations and resources to advance, I doubt the future will be much different.
