Probably the right size for the venue, and playing in a soccer stadium has got to be a better fan experience than playing in a baseball stadium.

Disappointing in some ways as Miami is a great destination.

Aresco's dreams of a tweener AAC football conference that is comparable to a P5 have been dashed.

And the idea the AAC was equivalent to the Big East has been dashed when they had to add Wichita State to prop up the basketball conference.

So far not so good.

The attendance will be better, I'll admit to that. It's just not a very glamorous location. It's not a bad town...I don't know, had to explain but I'm disappointed.

Couldn't disagree more.

What this suggests to me is ESPN and Aresco are working together. The Wichita State addition was timely with the Top 10 team they have coming in next year. With two 30-win teams, there was no urgency to prop up anything. Most of the other programs had short benches, and were really just needing time. There was no way they were going to add prior to this year with the Big 12 decision looming. ESPN blessed the addition.
It seems like Aresco and ESPN are moving in concert now, consolidating basketball strength and making moves with bowls. This is likely 1 of multiple moves.

I hope this is beginning of a big bowl upgrade.

Send the G5 champs who don't make the CFP to a new bowl series of games vs P5.

What moves though? Trade or sell this bowl for something better? If so, great. It seems to me that you've been hinting at more realignment to come. Curious to what you know....

You do realize that your team could be in the Frisco Bowl right? The Belch is opponent in 17 and 19, but the Maction is the opponent in 18. I'd be happy if it's a permanent Maction vs Belch game.

jeez, who cares? they're all irrelevant except the NY6 and a handful. Miami Beach Bowl was irrelevant too.

Sun Belt I would argue has a better brand right now than CUSA (Coosa).

It's become a more regular football conference with recent additions instead of a holding tank for Alabama/Louisiana schools.

I agree. It's more compact too. It's a decent conference. Just because I call it the belch doesn't mean I don't think it's better than CrudUSAllovertheplace. The Belch is a better conference than CrudUniverSitiesAllovertheplace...

Sounds like a similar deal with CUSA and their Dallas bowl. Have to assume it will take Ponsettia Bowl TV spot in the ESPN schedule. Looks like a G5 vs G5 bowl permanent status for this bowl.

That would make four bowls in the DFW Metroplex, plus the FCS championship game:
Cotton - Arlington
Armed Forces - Fort Worth
Heart of Dallas - Dallas
Bowl Formerly Known as Miami Beach - Frisco

DFW isn't a bad location-I spent 14 years there. Centrally located (especially for these schools), easily accessible airport, great recruiting. The weather in December can be iffy, as it might be 60 degrees on game day, or there may be an ice storm. You don't go there for the weather.

Frisco turned from a small town to a suburb overnight, as it tends to happen in North Texas. It grew from a population of 6,000 in 1990 to 33,000 in 2000 to 160,000 today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisco,_Texas There are plenty of hotels and restaurants. The Rangers' AA farm club plays in a great ballpark next to the Dallas Stars practice facility. In addition, the Cowboys just opened their new practice facility there, The Star, complete with indoor stadium used by high schools. Frisco is not on the list of Top 10 vacation destinations, but it's fine for a lower-level bowl.

The FCS championship has done well there, especially when NDSU is in it with its horde of traveling fans. Toyota Stadium is fine for what this is. If ESPN wants to put on this game, and it's not going to be in Miami, why not Frisco? There are worse places.

C-USA overexpanded trying to stay a step ahead and it backfired.

C-USA expansion backfired because they picked wrong teams
i always tought C-USA should went after MAC schools
Marshall, UMASS, Buffalo [ Navy & Army maybe ]
i even liked U Of Toronto idea, there ur start.
fill in with MAC [Toledo, Ohio, akron, WM, NoILL]

Yeah.

They should have at a minimum thought more seriously about hoops.

At the time the minimum to hold a conference champ was 12 which skewed how things played out.

That venue is very poor for football. Love that this bowl is moving out.

Prefer Wrigley or Seattle, but oh well. At least a quality venue.
