It won't even be half that IMO. Just curious, why would a Wichita St fan care about adding Boise and BYU football to the AAC?....it wouldn't add any money for you guys. Unless Wichita St is starting a football program and expects to play football in the AAC? No offense, but I hope that doesn't happen.

No reason to add boise and stretch the conference that much. BYU currently makes about $5 mil and their ego won't allow them to join a G5 conference. More than likely if we get a raise BYU is going to demand one from espn.

How much they need us is up for debate but the fact that they were able stop Big 12 expansion for almost nothing means they will probably try to do the same thing with us.

Pennies? I think everyone here would love an extra million in the tv contract. The entire expansion was just to extort more out of espn. Everything is speculation now. Is there real bidders that want the aac? Espn can't lose the aac. They have a content problem for espnu and espn news if that happens.

Well regardless the big 12 did a crap job of extorting espn if that was really their goal. A one time payment of $10 mil to the conference is nothing they get they used to get more than that from the sugar bowl.

If there are no real bidders for the aac then thats even worse as espn can pay use whatever they want. If they need us that bad they are going to find a way to do it without spending a whole lot of money.

You can't say that $10 million dollars with zero return is nothing then on the other hand say that ESPN won't spend more to keep our rights. ESPN could end up with a giant programming hole for a number of years if they don't get us.

^its already happened with us. 9 out of the 12 AAC teams are from CUSA. ESPN lived without us fine during those miserable TV days in CUSA. They lived without Navy too. Navy was on cbs-SN. So....that point is always interesting. They also lived without a very good MWC that had Utah, TCU, BYU from 2005 to 2012. I suppose ESPN had the WAC (Boise) to fall back on, and they don't anymore...I digress.
ESPN wasn't afraid to lose 100% of the fine content that CUSA and the MWC had to provide. I think we can all agree it was damn fine content they passed on.

That was prior to all these conference networks and now Fox buying content. There is much less inventory available to cover all the espn channels now with conference networks and conferences like the big east moving away from espn.

One team a conference doth not make and espn will tell byu to sit and spin...

I still think BYU all sports and BSU (football only) is a win/win and with an 8 million dollar contract it is feasible.

True! But BYU is to arrogant to care i would rekon they would even be willing to take a pay cut if it meant avoiding a G5 conference, thats how bad their ego is.

I would still say no to boise though simply because of the distance and who knows how good their football will be in the continuing years.

not gonna happen that way. AAC schools will be falling all over themselves to join the B12 leftovers just like we did to join this league.

RE: American Pow6r
There is only way the American would have a chance to become a Power 6 conference - and this will never happen.

The only way is for the American to sign a Media Rights Deal similar to the one the ACC and Big XII have signed. This would guarantee some security and stability that the league as a whole desperately needs in order to grow as a conference by ensuring against a revolving-door type of membership that has eaten away at our membership for over two decades. It would force us to WORK TOGETHER and make our in-conference games actually MEAN SOMETHING.

But the bottom line is we don't want to pass up an opportunity to join a historically relevant conference with schools we our geographically closer to and in some cases have been in conferences with before, so it won't happen. Every last school in this conference - Every. One. - wants out. So we are stuck with each other.

This is all about the narrative. We want to separate from the garbage of the g4 and not be called in that grouping.

BYU doesn't need the money. They won't give up independence for a couple million. If we got an NY6 tie-in, that's a different story.

Pretty much, an NY6 tie in would make the whole P6 thing a legit argument.

The grant of rights would have to extend past 2025, or it's pointless; additionally, no AAC team would agree on a grant of rights (whether post 2025 or not).

Grant of rights only makes sense if we are talking like $10 million per year. We are going to get $3.5 to $4 million. Hopefully we can work in other perks. Like espn agreeing to push the p6 narrative and getting us better bowl matchups when they renew the bowl lineups. Espn owns a ton of bowl games.

Can the AAC "buy" an NY6 tie-in? Offer the bowl game 10, 20, 30 million? I think it would be a wise investment....

10 million a year for a GOR?? Compare that to the Big 12. . A Conference that makes sense geographically speaking, with schools that have century long rivalries to boot. The Big 12 decided against extending their GOR and they make DOUBLE that 10 million dollar dream. They aren't a 4 year old conference stretching from Houston to Tampa and NewOrleans to Connecticut either. A conference of 9 schools in a tight group plus West Virginia is considered endangered so they won't extend their GOR. What with a Sugar Bowl contract and media deal that pays 20 million per school per year.... But the AAC schools will sign a GOR. Why?

So the other leagues get like $6 million to play in the game and you want to pay $30 million? What? Our whole contract is barely over $20 million per year.

I just pulled those number out of thin air.

Just saying, is there a way we can get an NY6 bowl? Yeah it would suck to buy in but maybe after a few years of stomping some arse in that bowl we would flip the script and start getting paid. I'm just trying to think how we can crash the party.

It would make sense for us and I suspect we'd do it in a heartbeat.

It doesn't make sense, however, for the P5, either year-by-year or all-together (at $30M). Each school would get less than half a million per but would get far more competition in the real money-makers such as bowl games, possible TV coverage, etc.
