I am not putting anyone on the team down. I am intrigued by the recruits, excited by some, cautiously optimistic about others, and skeptical of some, but I am not willing to project anyone based off of what these boards say, because the boards, through appropriately blue tinted glasses, thinks ever one of them is the next great thing, and you of all people, being super stat guy, should know the reality is that that is rarely the case. Just approaching this with some realism. If we are looking at next year, it would be an anomaly for more than one of them to be a significant contributor in their first year in the program.

I cannot wait for Michael Hueitt to take the floor. Please let me know where you are sitting, so I can watch your reaction.

Welcome to the Monarchs! And yeah, ignore the boards.
As for next year, I'm excited to see Xavier Green. I think he's going to surprise a lot of folks with his athleticism.

Thanks for this post. It looks like folks were having a real nice time.
(Man, I wouldn't have thought that was allowed. Shouldn't we all be beating ourselves with switches, or something?)

McClinton will play immediately and will have 1 year with us.
Kithcart has to sit next year but will have 3 years to play with us.

At least not till they are graduating....then you would think they were NBA material!
Recruits are safe too. Until you have stepped on the floor, you are a 4 year 1st team all conference player that is among the best recruits ODU has ever signed.
lol pretty much exactly this.
Who's the last true freshman who had a major impact on an odu NCAA tourney team.
Hmmm.....
At least two players come to mind for your question, Petey Sessoms and Gerald Lee

Haha. If JJ's history is an indicator we have until mid season to share seating assignments.

Your takes are at least reasonable and thought out most of the time. I don't think this board hypes up freshman; who would they have even hyped up over the years? Caver was even crapped on and multiple posters claimed Fields was a better player at the start of the season.
There is every reason to be excited about our 2 incoming freshman; they are the highest rated guys we've had since Palmore and before that, maybe Dahi? Even so I would hope no one is expecting them to come in and be all conference or even relied on heavily. The team is going to rely on Caver, Stith, Porter, and Stith.....the other guys are just role players.
This team doesn't need the new guys to be stars for it to be a good team. I've said I expected Godwin to redshirt, but I think Talley being dismissed *may change that. But, there are a lot of potentially good backcourt/wing players fighting for minutes.

I've already proven you to be wrong when you claim freshman sit on the bench for Jones.

Brion Dunlap started at point guard as a freshman on the team that beat Villanova. Good stuff. What could have been... with a healthy Odell.

Gerald Lee was an impact player as a freshman. He led us in scoring the NCAA game against Butler. He had 10 or 14 points in the loss.

We went to the NCAA's in 2005, Laughton was a junior.
Then he got married and Boom...

That 2006 season was the worst. I thought for sure we'd be a S16 team that year. Instead we didn't have a great season, missed the NCAAs while GMU went to the FF.
I guess the NIT was cool...

I hope McClinton and Kithcart read this thread so they can see how quickly it evolves into something other than the original subject haha. Not that the discussion wasn't interesting.

Yep. So one in the last decade, a polished European big man.
Needless to say my point is made, relying on two freshman for big minutes this coming season is probably not the recipe for being an NCAA tourney team.
