Coach Tubby Smith may not be bringing in the Star players that Coach Cal did.

But he is clearly letting the Memphis players go by the way side that he doesn't want, and focusing on getting players that will play his style on the roster!

I'm seeing this and I'm not blind!

But a Memphis kid is his biggest target for next season

Tubby Smith may not be getting the high level guys that Cal did, but he is letting go of Memphis players that he feels isn't playing how he wants them to play.

Yes, but Cal even went after Shawne Williams, Jeremy Hunt, Andre Allen, etc. But his big recruits were from out of town.

My point is that Coach Smith probably talked to Cal and must have been told that, if you get Memphis players, they better be worth what you are getting.

If not, then go for a player from some where else.

Let's not compare Cal to Tubby please. They both coached at Memphis and Kentucky. They both have one ring. Other than that they are polar opposites and if they were stocks I know who I am buying and who I am selling.

Tubby is doing it his way, and I think that's good. I think the past couple of weeks surprised him a little, in a good way actually.
If things go well, as they have for him in the past, great. If they don't, he will be gone.

Seems to me Tubby is just taking the easiest possible path he can find. Recruit the easiest, least hassle players he can find, even if they will take us down to the level of Texas Tech. Maybe in 4 years we can go .500 in conference, lose in the first conference tournament game, squeak into the NCAA where we lose the first game in the conference, then he retires saying "I took 5 different schools to the tournament". If that floats your boat, well keep on sailing. For me, I feel like we could have hired an 800k a year guy and saved about 11 million dollars.

Coach Smith is doing what he always does: Find talented players, no matter where they're from and also take advantage of the good players locally, who are a good fit. Develop them, get them to play well in his system, and play well as a team. Win basketball games. It's worked everywhere he's gone. If it worked well in Minnesota and Lubbock, I'm expecting him to have even better results in Memphis. I think that's why he came here.

I don't think he had to talk to Cal to know about Memphis. He has successfully recruited Memphis before.

The "Memphis Brand" has been damaged over the last 4 or 5 years, and we are seeing the results now.

I'm gonna give Tubby a couple of years to right the ship. After that time, I will determine if he is the right person for the job.

I will temper my expectations for the program and just bask in the glow of football in the meantime. We just have to find a way to keep our football coaching staff intact for the long term.

I personally, don't think it "worked well in Lubbock". If that is the best we can expect, well Pastner was atleast 4x better.

Wasn't it Tubby's Minnesota team that beat our amazing team full of 4/5 star guys down at the Battle of Atlantis? Andre Hollins had fun that day hanging 41 on us.

I miss CUSA.

You might not be familiar with the state of the Tech program when Smith took over. And the 2015-16 team was picked to finish last in the Big 12. They upset several ranked teams on their way to the NCAA tournament. There's a reason Smith won Big 12 coach of the year and Sporting News national coach of the year after that season.

And who said that was the best you can expect?

It's business. Not hate. We've overpaid for his method. That's not on him either.

Probably so, but longing for Pastner is insane.
