He said Allah akbar which is God is great. I know the two are the same so maybe that's why I was confused. Anyway, I get what you are getting at.

Probably for clarification. Most Americans have heard Allah akbar enough times to think it translates to "Die you Christian mother*******!"

lol, yeah, I forgot lots and lots of people are simply ignorant.

I understand why people would be irked over the AP translating it. However, with a name like Kori Ali Muhammad yelling "God is Great", I would be very surprised if people didn't assume that it was a Muslim related attack. Still, they should have used the Arabic form of the phrase since that's what he said.

Obviously, by not putting “Allahu Akbar” which is what he actually said, you remove a lot of critical information from the story, including that the killer was Muslim and that may have been a factor in addition to the fact that he hated white people.

Not to mention that it doesn’t translate to “God is great,” it translates to “Allah is greater and above all others.”

Their stylebook demands when a foreign language is used, that they put what is said if the meaning is clear. If not, they are to put the foreign language, in quotation marks, then their translation.

But here’s their correction today.





They still refuse to say he said “Allahu Akbar”.
