Mostly agree with the ranking, but I would rank DB higher, so many returning starters this year..

Wesley Fields is the only 3-star guy in that bunch, but just barely, and Moore has a rating of 0.700, which might be as low as it can be (not sure).

Wait until you see RB Jamarius Henderson at Troy...

It will be a rough year. Withers has called this year 1 of the rebuild and 2016 year 0. Don't expect much from the Bobcats until 2018 and more likely 2019.

You never know...Usually if a coach is good it does not take long nor does it take long for a bad coach to ruin a good football team. Monken turned us back into a good FCS playoff team in year one when the previous coach that ran a different offense went 5-6. If it were not for NDSU and losing one year due to the transition he probably would have two NC's as well within four years.

Now look how quick our current HC took a winning team with better talent than the previous two years and f'ed it up.

Totally depends on the situation. Getting a school from 5-6 to good doesn't need to take very long, because you're already starting with enough talent to win some games. But sometimes a program goes so far into the toilet it takes years to fix. Nick Saban or Urban Meyer wouldn't have made 2012 Idaho into a good team by 2013 or 2014 because there just weren't enough players and you can't fix that in one or two recruiting classes.

Texas State was also in pretty terrible shape a couple years ago. Last year they were in the "tries hard, but totally overmatched and no depth" phase. I'd expect them to look better this year and last longer into games but fade at the end, because they don't have enough guys who can play. Sometimes a little patience on a new coach is warranted.

Look at Urban Meyer at OSU after Luke Fickle.

Look at Troy after Larry Blakeney. (he was a phenomenal coach in his prime to be fair).

RE: SBC Unit Rankings
Cannot see how you guys/gals can compare the various "units" in the SBC.

It was an effort just to compare the the various position rankings of A-State from 2016 and 2017.

Used 247, and their game notes from their bowl game (to establish who exactly were the players on the "units"), and then asked a fan which of the newbies might join them in 2017.

Looks like their average player rating on 247 will be down at corner back, quarter back, defensive end, linebacker and receiver, up a little at nickle, safety, and the offensive line, and same at the a-back, tight end and running-back.

RE: SBC Unit Rankings
For A-State fans I know that Armond Weh Weh(0.8300), is expected to be a big contributor at Rb, Avery Johnson( .8000)
at TE, but they only showed two players at those positions on the game notes.

True freshman Dwayne Fisher (.8463) could also join the OL, or even the DL.

For the fans of the other SBC teams, you get to see how the 2017 A-State "units" are expected to compare to the 2016 "units", who 247 said had the best roster of talent in 2016 , using their rating's for those players as a standard candle.

At least you can compare your players "rankings" to theirs until 247 publishes the 2017 Team talent rankings.

I now have a "feel" of how the 2017 A-State team compares to the 2016 team with numbers from a semi-credible source.

RE: SBC Unit Rankings
Just for the A-State fans, as far as the expected starters, it does appear that your team will be better than 2016, on both sides of the ball as far as their 247 ratings.

Based on what I've been told about how spring practice has gone the improvement is more than just on paper, and at some point the 2017 team will almost certainly be better than the 2016 team, but not sure how they compare to the other SBC teams, but my guess is they will again compare favorably.

I think the offense will be better because there is more depth on the offensive line. The defense has me worried. It was reported they got manhandled at the spring game. The d-line is looking rough. Hopefully some true freshmen come in and make an impact right away.
