I guess you haven't been paying attention (or thinking on your own) the last year. Much of the mainstream media is now fake news. And journalists are lazy. You see the same story from 5 different sources, but they are just quoting a fake news site, like Buzzfeed or Vox or Huffington Post or CNN.

And you're actually missing the origin. This all started from the right. Some far right website will publish something, Drudge will pick it up and then Fox 'news' will. Then when you do a google search of it, you'll get 2-3 pages of nothing but right wing websites linking the same article.

It's a nice little business they got going.

Yup. It's actually become a cottage industry.

By both sides. The truth is, the media as we know it has sold whatever journalistic integrity they may have had for clicks/views.

Their credibility is shot and stands about where the National Enquirer is with their "Half man/Half Goat" stories.

If you honestly believe that much of hte mainstream media is now fake news, why not dispute the "facts" of the sites that are linked rather than just dismiss the story.

Dismissing the story out of hand is equivalent to burying your head in the sand.

Well in the other thread, I didn't dismiss it. I looked up a Turkish source that didn't even mention the USA, so it called Vox and CNN (where I did see it) into question. Even then I didn't totally dismiss it.

If you see Fox and ABC both covering it, then you've got a good idea its real. If all you see is one side and they quote anonymous sources or don't quote anyone at all, good chance its fake.

You used not to have to do that except with places like Vox. Even the Huffington Post put a ridiculous liberal spin on everything but was partly based on reality. Not anymore.

Looking up a turkish source before looking for the official white house release seems backwards.

Crying wolf repeatedly will garner you a fake news reputation. I don't even bother watching the MSM news anymore it's like reading our local toilet paper called the EP Times.

My biggest pet peeve is that it's common to talk across each other and to not have those give and take discussions. I try my best to do that but I'm sure that I don't always do so.
