RE: Top 50 Class so far - Tiger Basketball 2017 Signing Class
Lets start from this basic place - the OP stated a fact. According to this specific site's rankings we have a top 50 recruiting class. If that fact makes you immediately get mad and makes you feel the need to attack the site, the recruits, and the coach then that's fine. That's your right. But, if seeing other fans having positive feelings of hope about our team makes you mad and feel the need to attack them, then that makes you an a**hole.

We are #58 now, and 3rd in the AAC.
Just shows how meaningless the ratings are. Take them with a grain of salt and about +-40%. Then you are in the ball park. But they are based entirely on subjectivity, opinion and mostly politics.

I'll add this, we originally became #1 in the AAC when they drop William Douglas at SMU to a three star.
The highest rated player committed to an AAC school is 138.
Not good. The AAC might end up a one bit league in the next couple of years.

There's a little truth to them, a bit of bias.
I wouldn't completely throw them away. I would care more about the direction of the vector, and your position relative to your conference.
Then I would care about your conference as a whole.
The AAC being this weak isn't good.

I hope we at least get an additional 7 bits, so we can compete with the Nintendo Entertainment System!!!
All seriousness, the number of *'s does not equate to the # of teams from a league that are invited to the big dance. It is on a variety of factors. Now, one could definitely argue, based on history, that the P5 schools do get preferential treatment compared to smaller conference schools by the selection committee.

Three next year with SMU, Cinci, and WSU. Beyond that, fair point.

I agree. It's that phantom metric called quality wins, which is super subjective.
But overall better talent in a league should make teams appear to be more "quality".
The true problem is that AAC schools don't get many chances to show that they are better, since the P5 doesn't want to play a lot of us.

I have no idea why it's so hard for people to understand you need talent to compete at a level relevant to the resources and expectations at Memphis.
Yes, we had talent and Josh didn't capitalize on it. It doesn't mean that it was because the players were highly ranked.

I do not get it either. I guess reality will hit, eventually.

HOF coach Rick Pitino laughs at these recruiting services
"How and why do they rank kids.....so, if a kid is #57, wtf does that really mean?
Does that mean I'm the 57th best coach for recruiting him?"
Pitino has committed two players ranked in the bottom of the 100 -120 range in Darius Perry and Jordan Nwora.
The point being - outside of the top superstars, all these guys can ball. And that includes our recruits.
If you are even a three star, you are a top player in the country just based on sheer numbers of athletes playing, period.

I wouldn't say all can ball at the D1 level...There are more numerous duds as you get further and further down the rankings

Rankings are not perfect but they are a good metric. Go look at who consisntely rounds out the top 15 and you will find teams co sistently in the top 25. Flip that and find teams in the bottom quarter consistently and you will fins teams competing to not be last in their conferences...
So a #50 class is probably a team that ends the season 25-30 on the tip end and 75-80 on the low end.

Per 24/7, below are Louisville's recruiting classes:
2014: four 4* and two 2*
2015: three 4* and one 3*
2016: one 5*
2017: one 5* and three 4*

Some folks have convinced themselves that talent and stars are not very important and all Tubby needs for success is a roster full of his type of guys that he can coach up.
We will see how it works out next season with the players Tubby picked.

There was nothing wrong with your post. It was factually accurate and it provides a counter point to all the posts about D2 players and JUCO benchwarmers.

Explain to me why a 4 or 5 star would play for Memphis right now, if we didn't pay them.
If they did, I would question their intelligence.
Stars do matter, but not to Memphis right now. If you can't see that, then I question your intelligence.

I'm more interested in results than looks. Tubby has turned a bucket of Sh1t into a pearl many times before and I'm expecting to see it again.

So...you admit he is accumulating a "bucket of sh!t" right now...
Thanks.
