The problem for next year is that this recruiting class is basically the entire team. These guys plus Martin will hve to produce everything.

By average recruit rank we are 9th in the AAC

This again??

I have said this in numerous threads. They default all unranked players to 70. The JUCOs will probably eventually get ranked by 247. They typically rank the JUCO All Americans, and they are your average three star players around 85.

We have a decent class compared to the rest of the AAC because we landed JJ whose probably the 2nd highest rated player in this AAC class.

Houston and Memphis do not have the worst classes in the AAC. Please stop spreading this FUD.

It has come to this:

pounding our chests because a class (in basketball) is #50.

You need a new schtick.

Didn't mean to create a $hit Storm. Just posted because i thought it was a good sign to see our class being Top 50 out of 300+ D1 college teams

We need some HOPE as Tiger fans

Tubby's plan already taking effect....lower expectations to zero so that a top 50 recruiting class now looks good. SMFH.

Are you seriously comparing Josh's recruiting classes to Tubby's? Here's a quick refresher for comparison purposes: Josh's 2nd recruiting class was ranked #3.

He also had a class of Dominic Magee, Chris Hawkins, Trashon and Avery Woodson. I'm pretty sure 3 of those were JUCOs and 2 of them either barely played or never played. We only had Avery for a couple years and then he transferred.

2013 was pretty good, but every single player from that class has transferred out. 5 out of 6 have been gone for a while.

He had 7 classes. 4 of them were basically ranked 40 or below. 5 if you count what he had coming in 2016.

I'm not hating on Josh. I think he is a great recruiter, which is kind of my point. There's going to be variance in Memphis classes, based on the number of 4* that are in Memphis each year.

There was one in 2017.

I'm not asking for lower expectations. I'm asking for reasonable. If you expect a top 20 class when the city of Memphis has only one 4*. I'm sorry. It's not going to happen. Josh couldn't do. The only person who can is Cal.

If he misses on 2018 bad, then yes we should be upset. But it hasn't happened yet...

Stop acting like it has.

It's par for the course for those who want to claim Tubby is spending too much time golfing at Mar-a-Lago rather than recruiting and running the team.

You are just being disingenuous.

One of Josh's "sub 40" classes was a two person class comprised of Top 10 5* Adonis Thomas and Top 10 JUCO Stan Simpson.

Rankings are based on stars x # of recruits, so if a team only has one or two guys (despite the level of quality) it won't be rated highly in a list format.

Conversely, if you have a class of seven players, chances are that class will move up the list due to sheer volume of players.

Please stop with the revisionist history. Magee was a top 100 recruit. Burrell and Woodson were extremely productive players at the high major level. Burrell in particular was probably the most misused player under Josh's tenure....and that's saying something.

The rankings scale. You really can't get above 40 with only 3 star players. We are ranked were we are cause of JJ.

The sweet spot is 3 to 4 players. I agree on that, but since so many kids transfer now you better at least have a class of 4 every year.

So I don't mind the way they do things.

We aren't getting much credit after our top 3 players in the ranking system. The algorithm doesn't give you extra credit for adding a bunch of three stars. You only will get credit for about the first 3 players.

247 doesn't really keep up with juco rankings

neither Brewton or Thornton are rated at all, yet both are top 50 jucos and one is 1st team JUCO AA

This class is a top 40 type class

notice who's one spot ahead of us though - Chris Beard's Texas Tech club

oh, the irony

No. But I also didn't forget that Magee was a consensus top 100 recruit, which is what I thought this whole thread is about.

I'm just trying to figure out what good an awesome recruiting ranking does if the player doesn't pan out or if the chemistry is bad and players leave. Great! We feel so proud about our top 5 recruiting class. In 2013, when we raked in a bunch of studs we couldn't keep, Gonzaga landed two 2 star dudes. People would be losing their minds around here if that happened. I realize the situations are different (we're in a better conference), but they sure seem to be having more success.
