CalExit Formally Dead (for now)
http://reason.com/blog/2017/04/18/calexi...es-the-way

Quote:One notably bizarre, disorganized push to turn California into its own country is dead—at least for now. Its leader, Louis J. Marinelli, announced that he is canceling the petition and pulling up stakes. While he said he believed in the struggle for California's independence "from the United States so we could build the kind of country that reflects our progressive values," he has decided on a new path.

He's decided he'd rather live in Russia, which is not exactly famous for its progressiveness.

In a missive released yesterday afternoon he said that life in Russia would offer him "a future detached from the partisan divisions and animosity that has thus far engulfed [his] entire life." Yes, one imagines it is true that he's going to face much less partisan divisiveness in Russia given how frequently very bad things happen to those who oppose the status quo there.

Oh is he living at the "embassy" he established? Did he finally figure out that if Cali left it'd be a 3rd world country in a matter of months?

The thoughts and actions of a deranged individual. Hoping he starts his progressive mantra in Russia........He'll go missing and never be heard from again. Win Win.

I had some hope this would take off and the United States could cut the cancer called California from itself. This is sad news indeed.

I only hope for our friends across the pond that the ugly tumor called Scotland can be excised successfully and soon.

He'd rather live in Russia? I thought Russia was bad? No?

BTW, this is the kind of emotionally troubled leftwing nut I just love.

I'm sure the libs will check Marinelli's connections to Russia very thoroughly. We can't help Ruskies coming in here trying to balkanize the country.

RE: CalExit Formally Dead (for now)
I'd like to see Calexit out of principle and morbid curiosity, but while the political effects would be significant, keep in mind that California hasn't flipped a single presidential election since Rutherford Hayes. Economic issues and congressional politics would really shift, but a Democratic victory is far from unlikely if a candidate wins like Obama did in 2008.

RE: CalExit Formally Dead (for now)
I think that a large percentage of those in flyover country would have loved to see a Calexit and were cheering it on. The rest worried about those who would leave Kaliformexico hoping they wouldn't re-settle in their own states.

In case you don't know, it seems this guy is married to a Russian. An article I read stated that he started this whole Calexit thing when his wife was having trouble getting her green card. Ironic that now she has the green card and he decides to bolt for Russia. Lol

Can't fix Stewpid. Oh well. I hope he lives long enough to realize his collossal mistake. After you renounce your U.S. citizenship, it ain't easy getting it back later.

Maybe NK will just do what this guy couldn't/decided not to do. A second Sodom and Gomorrah, fire from the sky.
