He might be some help. He had an offer from Northwestern.

This one excites me. A 6-10 senior transfer. Not much to lose on that. Not sure what he did this past season, since he apparently did not play for Ohio University. Was he injured? Did he sit out the season for some other reason? (i.e. I did not even see him listed on this year's team roster). He apparently did not do a ton, while at Ohio, but you can't teach 6'10". Welcome aboard, Wadly.

RE: Wadly Mompremier has committed
This from November of 2012, when he signed with the Bobcats-

Mompremier has continued to show improvement during his prep career in Miami, Fla., and continues to impress. He's got the length and skill that makes him quite the matchup problem. Mompremier can dribble by most guys his size and has the ability to shoot over smaller defenders from the perimeter.

"Wadley is everything you can ask for in a young man," Miami Senior High School Head Coach Marcus Carreno said. "He is a shy and quiet guy at first but once you get to know him, he really opens up. He is a great teammate and always puts forth the maximum effort on the floor. He wants to do what's best for his family and those are values you don't always see."

He makes plays at both ends of the court due to his high motor and has also shown the ability to make difficult passes in transition. Mompremier chose Ohio over Massachusetts, Northwestern, Wyoming and Cleveland State

Hope to find out more about this young man- it is now 5 years later. Hopefully, he can come in and really help us.

"Center Wadly Mompremier, a native of Miami, Florida, did not collect stats in 2016, as he pursued a redshirt. Mompremier was a key reserve player, collecting appearances in 64 games and five starts. Mompremier recorded 78 points (2.6 per game), 125 rebounds (2.0 per game), 47 blocks (0.7 per game) during his career."

It looks like the last year that he played at Ohio he was mainly a defensive specialist. He was second on the team in blocks. He did not shoot much, but made 55.1% of what he shot. At the FT line he must have taken lessons from Wilt and Shaq.

This past season Lis Shoshi led us in blocks, and averaged .062 blocks per minute played. Mompremier had 34 blocks in 272 minutes, or .125 per minute, twice as many as Shoshi.

Compare their scoring, their TO's, assists and rebounding.

He is not the second coming of Kareem, Wilt, or Shaq. He is 6'10" and probably about 23 years of age. So he will be mature and experienced. Based on who recruited him, he was seen as having a lot of potential out of high school. He did not reach his potential at Ohio. Hopefully, he worked on his game, during his redshirt season, and will be a pleasant surprise for us next season. He seems well worth risking a one year scholarship.

Ohio fan here. Wadly is a good kid with length and athleticism. He can run the floor, block shots, get athletic dunks. Unfortunately, he has battled Crohn's disease for a number of years which has severely limited his minutes over the years. When he's healthy, he's a nice role player/fringe starter. I was hoping he would stay because we really don't have any athletic rim defenders.

Really appreciate your input. I figured there might be something medical but, of course, I had no idea he had Crohn's disease. I don't know much about it, but it seems to be an illness that waxes and wanes, so maybe he will be better next season. Glad to hear he is a good kid. He should fit in well here. We have a lot of "good kids", and supposedly have a 100% graduation rate over the last 10 years or more. Some of our fans wouldn't mind a few "thugs", if it helped us win, but I like having players we can be proud of.

Comparing last year for Shoshi and year before last for Mompremier
Points per minute - Shoshi 0.36, Mompremier 0.286
Turnovers per minute - Shoshi 0.061 Mompremier 0.066
Assists total- Shosho 39 Mompremier only had 3 total
Rebounds per minute - Shoshi .260 Mompremier 0.338

Not the offensive player Shoshi was. Mompremier is a blocks and boards man.

Black hopefully will give us 25 minutes per game if he can stay out of foul trouble. If Mompremier can come in and give us a solid ten minutes, and we play smallball for the remainder, that would be a good combination. Interestingly, Black and Mompremier shot exactly the same percentage from the field in their last season (55.1%).

The more I look at it, the more I think he is a really nice addition. Losing Shoshi was going to hurt us inside. Now we have an experienced big man who played at a level somewhat better than the SBC.

To give a perspective, Shoshi led the SBC in blocks per game with 1.5. Mompremier would have tied for 5th last season with only 9.1 minutes per game.

I am firmly of the opinion that in the 3-point world of today you really need an eraser in the middle so that your perimeter players can afford to gamble a little in pressuring the ball. Mompremier definitely gives us that.

One thing he will give us is a scholarship senior, which we did not have.

We don't know who the casualties will be to make room for Cezanne and Mompremier, but we probably could make an educated guess.

I am excited to have the young man. If he is athletic, he can get rebounds, block shots, and make put-backs. We don't need him to be an outside shooter, like many bigs want to be today. Just stay under the basket, where he belongs.
