Those are all good candidates for particularly stupid ones.

You just need Scottie to design an asinine trophy and you are set. Since the "rivalry" started online maybe y'all can battle for the "Bronze Computer trophy" or call it "Battle for the Message Boards"

Hahahaha....UAB and Bamer is a heck of a football rivalry game! They've played at least once I think...

nope not once

It was Auburn that played them in 1996. 29-0 Auburn.

I was at that one. I think it was our first Div. 1-A game. There was an article on al.com a few months ago about talks between the schools for another game. Who knows what will come of that, though.

IMO, as long as there are G5 games on the schedule, let alone FCS games, in state G5 schools should be scheduled for two reasons:

1. It provides the revenue to in state schools rather than to some school in Mississippi, Tennessee, or Louisiana.

2. The attendance and demand is much higher and that helps the state retirement system as well as the gate and concessions at Auburn or Alabama.

I think South Carolina gets it right. They do a much better job of scheduling in state smaller schools. So until the SEC plays only a P5 schedule Troy and UAB (when they are ready to go again) should be on the schedules of the Tide and Tigers. And if our AD's are afraid that some day we might lose a game to one of them then whiz on the AD for being a coward and putz. I fail to see how losing to Louisiana Monroe is somehow less damaging than losing to either UAB or Troy.

I hope our ADs are able to work something out. Auburn has always been more open about playing in state teams. Plus, like you said, might as well keep the money at home. I'd also like to see us continue our series with Troy and start playing USA on a regular basis. When it comes to UAB vs.Alabama, though, I could care less if we ever played them. It's not like it matters, there is not a chance in hell of it ever happening.

I'd be fine with a rivalry game with Sparty, nothing good can come from an annual series with that school down the road, local and Detroit media love writing stories to tear down EMU and the athletics.

Rutgers and Temple have a 4 year series coming up. 2 games in Piscataway, 2 in Philadelphia.

it could have been an interesting rivalry except one or both schools were usually horrible.

I wouldn't mind a Rutgers - UConn series; it was pretty even during our time together in the Big East but over the history of the series we've won 2 out of 3. I wouldn't want to play it every year with only 3 OOC games to give.

33) Boston College vs UMass

Like #13 these have started up again where it's a round robin where UConn plays Boston College and the following year UMass. Some years you will see both as our 2018 schedule. http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-18/2018-...hedule.php

While this looks like a self-serving post by a UMass fan, it makes perfectly good sense on a lot of levels for these three schools to play an annual round robin. They represent 100% of the FBS schools in the entire New England region. They should eventually produce the biggest annual attendance for all of them (excluding the occasional home game against Notre Dame).

It was an insult that UMass was left out.

We started playing UConn in 1897 and have played 72 times. I'd call that a rivalry.
The quoted material comes from the UMass Football Wiki, which is a clickable link below in my signature.

Quote:UMass leads the all-time series 36–34–2.[52] Massachusetts dominated the rivalry early, winning the first eight and 13 of the first 15 meetings between the two universities. Connecticut went on a streak of their own after that, winning 14 of the next 16 games. The 1960s again belonged to the then-Redmen of Massachusetts, as they lost only two games that decade. In the remaining years of the rivalry, the series was much more even, with neither team able to put together a winning streak of more than four games.

UMass started playing Boston College in 1899 and played Boston College for 17 straight years.

Quote:BC and UMass met again in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1901, 1902, and 1912, with UMass winning all three contests before the series was halted.[47] The two universities did not meet again on the football field until 1966, when they began a seventeen-year series in which the teams would play each other in the last week of UMass' football season. UMass was in a lower division than BC during the entirety of the rivalry. As such, Boston College dominated the stretch,

Five stand out

1 Texas vs Texas A&M
2 Nebraska vs Oklahoma
3 West Virginia vs. Pitt
4 Kansas vs Missouri
5 Pitt vs Penn State

I agree Notre Dame should play a B1G East opponent annually (Michigan, Michigan State mostly, but also Ohio State or Penn State now and again), but it doesn't really matter which, so long as it is one of them.

Don't care much about P5 vs G5 rivalries. Not going to worry about those, they are done. Just a couple stragglers left, and only one, Navy vs Notre Dame, has solid economic value.

Why? I didn't miss the Big Ten being off ND's schedule completely in 2015. It did not diminish anything in my world.

Why should ND play a Big Ten East team annually? Geography?
[\quote]
The reason you don't care anything about the Big Ten , TerryD, is because you live in Baton Rouge. If ND played LSU and Alabama for a long time, and then had to stop playing them because of lack of available slots on the OOC schedule, I'm pretty sure you would care about that. BTW, I can guarantee you the SEC would treat ND the same way the Big Ten would about playing ooc games in September.

If ND played LSU and Alabama for a long time, and then had to stop playing them because of lack of available slots on the OOC schedule, I'm pretty sure you would care about that. BTW, I can guarantee you the SEC would treat ND the same way the Big Ten would about playing ooc games in September.

He's from western PA. I'm pretty sure the reason he doesn't want to play the B1G is because he doesn't like the B1G and/or see the mystique in those games due to ND's status as an indy and/or rocky history w/ the conference.

Geography?

The reason you don't care anything about the Big Ten , TerryD, is because you live in Baton Rouge. If ND played LSU and Alabama for a long time, and then had to stop playing them because of lack of available slots on the OOC schedule, I'm pretty sure you would care about that. BTW, I can guarantee you the SEC would treat ND the same way the Big Ten would about playing ooc games in September.

I didn't care for the Big Ten back when I lived in Western Pennsylvania for the first 26 years of my life, either.

I grew up with ND playing Michigan State and Purdue every year. Now that those games have been replaced? No big deal.

My attitude towards the Big Ten was the same back then as it is now.

As far as the SEC is concerned, I graduated from LSU law school in 1986.

I don't attend any SEC sporting events (no interest at all) and haven't for decades. So, no...if ND played LSU and Alabama and then didn't, no big deal to me. Replace them with someone else.

I am an ND fan. The opponents? Mostly fungible in my world except for Southern Cal, Stanford and Navy.

Other than those three? Mix and match the rest. Texas and Clemson instead of Michigan and Michigan State? What is the difference?
