While Matta will not return, and will not coach OSU in 2017-2018, it does not appear that he was "fired". The man has had some major health issues, and this seems like a mutual agreement.

Yeah, wasn't trying to improperly portray the situation; just using the words the article did. Have no idea on the true agreement other than your right that he has had some significant health struggles. Wish him the best!

From Chris Goodman (ESPN) on twitter:
"Gonna be a tough year for new Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann. Freshman Braxton Beverly granted his release and Derek Funderburk dismissed."

RE: 2017-18 Basketball Schedule
Looks like Marshall has scheduled a H/H with the Tribe.
Quote:The Herd lacks one game to complete its schedule and wants it against a power conference opponent. Already scheduled are visits to the University of Illinois from the Big Ten Conference and Xavier University out of the Big East Conference.
"William & Mary is new," D'Antoni said. "We're still playing Morehead, but they're coming to us. Ohio University is coming to us. We go to Toledo.

The D'Antoni is Dan, who is Nick's dad and Mike's brother, IIRC.

Yes, Both Mike and Dan are legends in Huntington. Marshall lost 41% of their point production with the losses of seniors Ryan Taylor, Austin Loop and Stevie Browning, But we have 6'7 SF RS freshman Jannson Williams, 5'11 PG freshman Jarrod West, Wake Transfer 6'4 SG junior Rondale Watson and JR College 6'8 Dani Koljinin coming in.
Depending on where the Marshall WM game falls will probably depend on how fast we play. The 1st 5-6 games I don't think it will be as frantic as we will be afterwards. Even though we lose 41% of our production we will be bigger, stronger and better defensively.

Nick D'Antoni was a PG for us about when Mike's 7 seconds or less offense was being run by Nash in Phoenix.

There has been a rumor on the masonhoops.com boards that y'all are coming to Fairfax this season.

Is that rumor based on anything, or from someone who tends to know what they're talking about? Or is it one of those conversations around this time of year that goes something like "Hey, our team still has a couple of open dates. I wonder who in-state that wouldn't be an RPI-killer could be lurking out there?"

I do not know if a game with GMU is on the schedule this year...but George Mason is one of the colleges
Tony has been working with to set up some kind of a four or six year home and home rotation series with. The others are Richmond, VCU and George Washington.

Comment on Masonhoops board with reliable sources now projetcs we will be playing there in early December.
So far from what we know or can reasonably assume:
Home
ODU
Hampton
D3 team
Away
Ohio State
Central Florida
George Mason
Savannah State
That's 7 of 12 slots available (or is it 11?)

I think we also have a home game against Marshall. And was that game against Savannah State confirmed to be part of a H/H?

After the game with Savannah last year, someone on here did make a comment that it was part of a H/H.
We may also be returning game to Liberty.

The NBA guru's called it Mike's system. It really isn't Mike or Dan's system but Mike and Dan's 103 year old father's system. Lewis D'Antoni came up with and implemented this system in the 1950s at Mullins HS, in Mullins WV.
Since Mullins was a smaller community they didn't usually have the size or quickness to play against teams like Huntington HS, Stonewall Jackson HS. Those schools always had more students to pull from. So Lewis devised a system where the ball moved a lot more than the players. A concept that no one had ever seen. Also they were shooting the ball 21-24 feet away from the basket (Way before the 3 point line) making the height advantage somewhat moot. No one had ever done that either, it was always get the ball down the court and throw it in the paint and score.
He lead Mullins HS to the 1955 state title over Huntington HS, this was before classifications so there was only 1 state winner each year.
Mike and Dan have refined their dads system over the years and they still bounce idea's off of each other when something they do works.

2017-18 Basketball Schedule
Interesting tweet I saw from Ohio St about their ooc schedule
"Ohio State's home MBB games: Robert Morris, Radford, Texas So., Northeastern, Clemson, William & Mary, App. St., Citadel, and Miami (OH)."
"In case you're wondering, Ohio State is paying $95,000 to each of their non-con home opponents, except William & Mary ($90,000)"
Why are we taking less? Poor negotiating?

We are taking less because it's a home and home ... we're going to pay them $90,000 when they come to Kaplan.

Especially sinceNortheastern and App State also both get 95k... I could see an upper mid major like WM getting less because we're neither a free win (Like a Radford or Texas Southern) or a big neough name to bring out fans (Like Clemson or even an in-state opponent like Miami).
