AAC needs to add Lacrosse
AAC would be a great lacrosse league I also think the TV or digital streaming would be very successful for our League. It would also give us a jump on the SEC and match the ACC as far as building our teams as brands.. it's only a matter of time before the SEC jumps into the fastest growing sport of today(youth)

Is the cash drawer at the Dairy Whip coming up short again?

Ironic this post is......

I just entered Dairy Whip as a team in the Ida, AR Lacross rec league. I took money out of the cash drawer number 4 to pay for it. I justified doing that by calling it "team building".

Plus, it may help Joeline, Tina, and Clover get into shape.

You are joking, right? I started playing lacrosse in 1969 @ seven years old. I have coached lacrosse in Pennsylvania & Rhode Island. The last thing that is needed in this conference is another resource-draining non-revenue men's sport. Lacrosse is a great game - but that's it!

Tulane students are actually the type that would watch a decent Lacrosse team. We're not really southerners anymore.

Tulane athletics has never been about revenue - even though the gov't says we do pull in upwards of 50m a year.

I, as a Marylander, would openly love AAC lacrosse.

UConn got rid of their d1 lacrosse mens team and made them a club team back in the 70s. I would really love it if they brought it back, Our womens lacrosse team plays in the big east.

There isn't another non-service academy school in the country who are looking to add another men's sport to the masthead. Even though most D-1 lacrosse programs average 45 players per team the teams average 12.6 scholarships per team. Tulane meets the minimum requirement for TitleIX by hosting Women's Beach Volleyball & Women's Bowling. Do you really think varsity men's lacrosse is viable in the cash-strapped AAC?

Please don't take this the wrong way... Lacrosse is not the Same(game) as it was in 1969.considering your from Rhode Island. You probably played on level as the sailing team.. many folks are focusing on Lacrosse as a major sport and there is a Major League now.. The colleges that do play division 1 are benefiting from major amounts of interests in student athletes and support from kids following these programs. It's coming but maybe not in warp speed at college because adding sports is expensive. Your right on that point. It is coming though and we should look at it.. it has more interest than many other sports that are historically at colleges but are not as relevant..

I was recruited by more lacrosse programs than football programs out of high school. Lacrosse is a sport that I enjoyed playing (and coaching) far more than football. My Brother was a midfielder for the Naval Academy and I have followed the popular growth of lacrosse over the decades as a fan and a high school coach. Please go to the next lacrosse game between Hopkins vs UNC, tell me how many people were there in attendance? I was in attendance at the Linc in Philly for the NCAA semi-finals. It was a nice crowd, half of the stadium filled with fans in attendance for all four teams.

Have been advocating this for SMU for a long time. Drop a different sport nobody cares about like tennis swimming or soccer, and add mens lacrosse. Its fun, draws better than any other non rev sport - and would help recruit students since the fever for lacrosse is in the same exact geography and demographic that comes to SMU.

Let's see - add yet another money sucking program to a conference whose schools can barely put food on the g5 table? We have other children to feed. I mean the kids are under nourished enough - no?

Every program that doesn't sponsor baseball should be down for LAX. Maybe Tulane too.

Are there any stragglers out there looking for a LAX affiliation?

That's a good start.

We could do both. Add women's lacrosse too

Oh good sounds like an endorsement! Now we just need to get some programs on board.

First smu has a great men's soccer program and honestly any southern or western university should have no problems fielding a good team in the fastest growing sport in the country and most popular in the world (particularly a texas school) i would assume they would be right behind baseball (which smu and tulsa need to add). This conference should be a beast in those lower sports that make up the second tier after basketball and football. Some good schools in soccer, tennis, volleyball and a tough league in baseball.

Lacrosse is a great sport but these other sports already have solid bases in our conference we need to build them and interconnect them across as many sports as possible. Lacrosse is a brand new start with a lot of work and no tradition yet. With basketball and football sewn up for the moment I would like to see the conference focus on full membership in baseball, softball, soccer.

Lacrosse is a distinctly American sport too. There's no excuse not to celebrate our great heritage and not play it.

Used to have a men's team in the 70s to match up with regional teams like Duke, UNC, UVA, Delaware, Maryland, Navy, NCSU, and William and Mary.

Got a women's program coming though.

The American does need to add women's lacrosse. We have 4 members who play in Cincinnati, Temple, UConn, and East Carolina. Need to just take Florida, Vanderbilt, and Old Dominion from the Big East.

RE: AAC needs to add Lacrosse
Many AAC schools (like UCF), have Club Lacrosse teams which is almost the same as having a varsity sports program (diehards plus family and friends watch) but without 95% of the costs needed for another non revenue sport.

Also, add in Title IX implications, if a men's varsity sport is added, another women's varsity sport would have to be added as well.

Same for other popular club sports like Ice Hockey. There is a reason most are and will stay Club Sports and never become a full fledged varsity sport.
