Spring Scrimmages: Pros/Cons of 1's vs 2's
Coach Babers scrimmages:
Offense 1 vs Defense 2 and Defense 1 vs Offense 2

What does your school do? You believe in this way or playing the 1's vs the 1's?

Confidence building/Timing/execution vs Strongest Steel Forged in the Hottest Fire and practice the way you play

Not to hijack your thread, but I've always wished the guys could scrimmage (NOT full go -- no live QB, etc) another team for the spring game.

I'd like to see a 1 v 1 and then switch after quarters or something like that. UCF does 1 v 2.

AState normally has Red be first team offense and second team defense vs. Black team first defense and second team offense.

They don't play a real game they will run a few series like a regular game but must of the rest is scripted.

I find it boring and from the message board comments I'm not alone. I don't think there is as much interest in the spring games any more.

Spring games are a chore for the schools too...but they put them on for the STH'ers and hopefully future STH'ers.

I think from Cuse's POV...Coach Babers is most interested in timing of routes and tempo. You have to remember some of the 1's and 2's won't be there in the Fall as new players arrive.

I think Coaches would rather have 2nd stringers get beat up by 1st stingers too...limit injuries of starters.

Utah appoints 2 assistant coaches as HCs for the spring game. Then they draft a roster so each team is a mix of 1s, 2s, and 3s.

Good for the fans...not so much for the coaches. I watched a few minutes of the Utah game...on SlingTV. Wanted to watch more but caught it at the end.

This is what I prefer.... First, because you never know when a "2" will have to step into the line with the other "1's" and so getting playing time and experience with a variety of players is good...especially in the spring. You can build unit cohesion in the summer and fall.

But secondly it gives players a chance to shine. Sometimes a kid shows more on the field and in a playing situation than in practice.

This year instead of a spring game AState is opening the field to kids before the players arrive. Then kids who have signed up will go through warmups with the players and then leave the field for drills after the drills everyone is welcome to come on the field and mingle with players.
