1. Arnold struggled IMO. He didn't work through his progressions quickly enough and took too many sacks. He missed a couple throws to wide open receivers as well as several other miscues. I think Drayton has all the tools and just needs time. I don't think he's ready right now.

2. LaRussa looked confident and in rhythm. He made one really poor throw on the deep ball to Duhart. He under threw the pass and it should have been picked off. Jonathan made a fantastic play.

3. I really like Isaac Weaver. He was the left tackle on the Blue squad and he is going to be a stud. He really moves his feet well for being 6'7. Going head-to-head with Ximines is a tough assignment and he held his own. We needed someone to step up in place of Butler and I think he's going to help fill a crucial role on our line. Davison also played well. The White line was young and it showed. They struggled IMO.

4. I was watching the linebackers closely. Lots of young, talented guys there. Jordan Young stood out from the freshman. Marvin Branch played really well too. I think he's going to get a lot of playing time this year.

5. Our safeties and defensive backs are so much better than they were three years ago. We have depth and talent. Last year's team was solid against the pass. They will be better this year.

6. We have some really good freshmen receivers. Ellison, McCluney and Cortez Ervin are the future. Not sure how much playing time they will get this year but they showcased their potential. All three have speed and height.

Agree across the board. I think we have a couple of future stars in Ellison and C-E.

Made a spectacular grab over the middle. Pass over thrown just a tad but he went up and grabbed it. He caught my eye right out of the gate.

RE: Spring Game take aways
I thought the QB play was...meh. Nothing to write home about. Arnold's first touchdown pass looked as scripted as a WWE match. I'm really hoping it was scripted. I'm screaming that it was scripted. So were several completions by others. If they weren't scripted then our defensive backfield sucks as bad as always. While this is the biggest and most talented group we've ever had back there, that really isn't saying much.

I personally do not like Addison. I've watched him get beat so many times. And the one INT he had in the end zone last year was the biggest gimme ever. The receiver had him beat to the corner by 4 yards. The QB threw the ball 5 yards inside the WR and into Addison's hands. It was a gimmie. I've only seen him get one interception the last two years that were a result of his coverage. Every other one was a horrible pass by the QB. Yes he had a few breaks ups last year. But they don't make up for the multiple times he was beat soundly.

Just my two cents.

So, nothing positive worth noting? That's a shame.

He made 3rd team by doing very well against all the slugs we played. We played 3 good teams last year and the defense got crushed. I just went through the stats for those 3 games. He had combined ZERO interceptions and ZERO passes broken up. Against good teams he was outclassed. Let's come back to this discussion this year after the WKY game. By then we'll have played the 3 very good teams on our schedule, UNC, Tek and WKY. If he improves in the games against good teams I'll eat crow. Until then he is a weak link in out secondary.

How many catches/yards/touchdowns did he give up in those games?

If he's the weak link then who's the strength? Maybe the defense as a whole wasn't as good as our best competition.

Addison had one of the best performances at corner last year in program history. Not sure what is gained by tearing him down because he didn't show well against several Top 50 teams. He doesn't have elite speed / quickness, but he has really played well for a guy that was originally a walk on.

Kinda of damning with faint praise isn't that? CB has been a weakness from day 1. By your own words then, he is an undersized and slow CB. Why then is he still one of our starters? What does that say about our talent and depth? I respect everything he has done. I'm just hoping for bigger and faster.

At least he isn't the mimi-me CBs we had for all those years.....Had we had Addison on the teams that lost playoff games against GA Southern we might well have won one of those games. Our defensive backfield was horrible. But we aren't FCS anymore, we should be bigger and faster than before, and this past Saturday I didn't see a lot to make me be hopeful for this season. At least not for games against the better teams on the schedule.

RE: Spring Game take aways
He's starting because he's one of the best corners in the league. And last year he had 10 pass breakups, which was by far the highest on the team. To compare, Young had 6. In 2016, Addison had 11 pass breakups, Young had 8. He was recognized by Phil Steele as 3rd team corner. A better question would be, why would he not be starting?

FWIW, the secondary has performed well over the past 2 years.

If he is the weak link in our secondary then we must have the best secondary in CUSA.

Yes we had a great secondary against all the weak teams on our schedule. We only gave up 21 TD passes which is fabulously good - no sarcasm. But 8 were to two teams. The two best we played, NC State and WKY. 13 TDs passes allowed in the other 11 games. It doesn't get any better than that. But how much of that was due to the teams we played and how much to how well the defense did? Until we can stop the better teams, and reverse the trend of giving up an avg of 45+ points per game to the good teams we play, I will not buy into this defense. I will repeat, for all the stats you can quote about Addison, I will point to 0 passes intercepted and 0 passes defended/broken up against APP St, NC State and WKY - all losses.

It's not all on the secondary. We got very little pressure in those games.

Those are the teams we play. We aren't in the ACC.
