Esquivel does not match up well with Southern Miss. Could go to the pen early today.

Why do you say that? Just curious.

Video is up ... quality from the behind-the-plate camera seems fuzzy ... slightly out of focus? Or dirty lens/filter surface?

Update: The closer-in view during the innings look good. It's just the wide shot that's murky. Maybe it's an auto-exposure issue. It should be possible to control the exposure so the brighter sky doesn't ruin the clarity of the baseball field.

Warren: First-pitch replay of Gneiting's grounder ... except it bounces funny and the fielder bobbled it. He turned around to pick up the ball and just got the out at first. Warren stumbled over the bag.

Myers: 0-1 pitch single up the middle.

DiCaprio: After 3 easy-take balls, a taking-all-the-way strike, inside pitch called a strike, wiff on pitch sinking low and away. Sigh.

F7 to Gneiting in deepish left-center.

JP notices the big gap up the middle ... which is where the single is hit.

I like how this game is going so far.

Also noticed (perhaps inspired by the OP) two uses already of the term "pitch slapped"

B3:

DiCaprio: High chop (off the plate?) very short to the left side. Running toward the line, the pitcher tries to make a basket batch, but muffs it. Likely would have been safe, anyway. Single.

Proctor: Three high opposite-field fouls along with two balls ... but then a wiff. Grrr.

Gray: First pitch scorched into right field. DiCaprio can advance only to 2nd.

Chandler: Called strike three on inside-black pitch. 2 outs.

Sheppard: Slowish grounder toward the left-side hole. SS fields it and tosses to 3B for the inning-ending force. Bummer. 2 LOB.
