I saw that, and immediate thought, is he that caliber? I don't remember being overly impressed.
FWIW, I was told UNC also pursued Whitman.
Maybe he's a guy to hold up the APR :)

RE: CJ Bryce
So Keatts thinks he can compete in the ACC with the caliber of players he recruited for UNCW, that will be fun to watch.

Well, in his first two weeks on the job he got the #1 recruit in NC for 2017 to commit.
I mean, you guys did just come of back-to-back seasons where you competed with Duke/UVA for 40 minutes with those players.

Haha true, true. Also think it is because at that time there were a lot of rumors that Bradley was leaning strongly towards leaving for the NBA. Still looks like a toss-up on what he will do, but I had heard if he is told he is a first-rounder he is gone.

Carolina canceled Whitman's visit after Garrison Brooks committed.

Yep, but I had thought both would be takes at that point.

ESPN's Goodman: NBA execs say Bradley should return to school. Potentially a first-rounder, but not guaranteed.

If he has an offer from Gonzaga, that has to be the most appealing. Coaching stability, deep tournament runs (as a high seed), sends players to the league, and Few successfully implements transfer every year. You get the collegiate success that none of the other schools reported as interested can offer, which comes along with increased national exposure.

Brooks had already committed before UNC got involved with Whitman. They cancelled his visit after Berry pulled back out of the draft, leaving only one slot left, with Kevin Knox still in play, as well as, the possibility of Bradley pulling out of the draft.

Negative. Brooks committed on 21Apr, Whitman cancelled visit on 26Apr and Berry announced his return on 02May.

I thought he was a very good player at this level.
And it's probably intriguing for a coach to snag a guy like him with veteran experience, even for 1 year. When you have so many guys looking to go to the NBA after their freshman seasons, it's a nice change of pace for a coach to have a seasoned veteran in the locker room, I imagine.
For Whitman, he has to know he'll be fighting to get into the rotation. Maybe that was good enough for him?

Yep, read Goodman's piece earlier, but him being in the 25-35 range is intriguing. Like I said, had a UNC person tell me Bradley would go if a team told him they would take him in the first round.
I also know he was working out in Raleigh with a few other guys, one of which was Frank Mason, in the weeks prior to announcing he would enter the draft without an agent.

This was my first thought exactly. He is not Kansas quality and will be riding the pine as one of the last on the bench. Seems like a strange pick up for Kansas, even if it was for veteran leadership.
Only thing I could figure is if Self was going to be short a scholly so he took a veteran big as a flier since it was going to go to waste if he didn't fill it. At that point you are an experienced player who can help be a practice body.

As I said, Brooks committed before Whitman was involved. Berry's decision to return was on UNC boards the night before Whitman's visit was cancelled. Berry withdrew on 4/25. The inference was that UNC wanted to hold open their last slot.

This is just a step to check the box and make it look like he hadn't been in touch with Keatts all along about his move to Raleigh. He's going to Raleigh unless he just feels like Keatts is going to recruit over him. Which he likely will.

If he ends up there I can guarantee you one thing, I'll attend a State game, and I'll pay whatever to be right behind the bench with Uncw gear!

RE: CJ Bryce
CJ certainly has options, but he may regret the decision to go elsewhere...The higher the level of Division 1 basketball, the more cut throat it hets.He could easily find himself recruited over and nothing but a role/practice player...By the same token I'm sure the young man has aspirations of playing at a higher level after college.Playing at a P5 school certainly gives hom.a much better chance of that.
