RE: A new Key Arena
AEG & Hudson Pacific withdraw their joint offer to remodel Key Arena. Down to two now.

RE: A new Key Arena
City of Seattle to enter "exclusive negotiations with Oak View group."

So unless they cant reach a deal, the new Seattle U/NBA/NHL arena will be a complete remodel of Key Arena, not a downtown SODO arena like Chris Hansen wants for his NBA team. Wonder if he would even still own a team that plays there. Im all for Ballmer and the Clippers though.

For the Redhawks, that would mean 2-3 years playing at the 999 seat Connolly Complex

RE: A new Key Arena
OVG has said it could possibly take anywhere from 2-5 years pending how smooth the process takes.

Seattle U and the Storm will more than likely not be getting as sweet of a deal when the "new" Key Arena is finished. They might not even be asked back b/c part of this remodel is to get the shows that are to small for the Clink and take away shows from Tacoma/Kent/Everett/ and be the epicenter for all entertainment.

If the Storm and SU mens team gets asked back it will be higher rent and they will be the last options when it comes to dates.

I hope that isn't the case but I can see this happening pretty easily.

Dave Grosby has said SU is in on every arena proposal there is in Seattle. But we will see. I dont see any downside to the arena builders by letting SU play there for rent though. I think SU will be fine and once an arena is built, they will move in. Much like LIU-B (Nets) for mid majors.

7 of the 11 Seattle mayoral canidates support the new arena being in SoDo, not the planned new Key Arena. 2 of the 11 support Key, 1 in Tuckwila (if this happened SU would stay in Key or Connolly) and 1 is noncommittal.

What is the advantage of having it SoDo?

Nothing for SU, but a way better location, access. Not in a residential neighborhood like Key, but in the arena district over empty lots already owned by the SoDo group.

Staples in right near a residential area and they are home to 2 NBA teams, a NHL team, and a WNBA team, so why is that really an issue for people.

Not every residential area is the same. You'd just have to try driving into Key Arena and the SoDo stadiums on a week day and see what you'd prefer I guess. Theres a reason majority of the city seems to want it at SoDo.

SoDo is immediately right at the end of I90 and the I5 interchange. Key Arena means all the traffic from the eastside (I90) adding into the already-present I5 traffic, then driving through city streets already full of daily congestion
