Wonder if KSU fans/boosters would care, one way or another, that Bohl was with Nebraska for many years in the 90's and early 2000's?

Or if the only care will be giving Snyder whatever he wants?

Most people I know would rather have winning football, and they'd take whomever they felt gave them the best chance to win Big XII titles. Now, using the hypothetical of Sean Snyder vs Craig Bohl, it's obvious who the better candidate is. Sean has never been a coordinator, much less a head coach, while Bohl has won FCS titles and has Wyoming (Wyoming!) competing for conference championships. Advantage Bohl. Also, a lot of outsiders forget that Bill Snyder retired initially in 2005. The fan base was lukeworm about his replacement at the time, Ron Prince (the OC at UVA under Al Groh), and some prominent boosters led the movement to have Prince fired less than three years later for not making bowl games and never beating KU (yes, there was a short time when KU was the better program). I honestly think the only reason KState hired Prince at the time was because he was from Junction City, KS, which is only 20 minutes or so from the KState campus.

If it came down to a candidate like Ron Prince or Sean Snyder, I think the fanbase would rather have the familiar name and coach. But if it was somebody like Bohl, given his success and qualifications, I don't see the fanbase and boosters fighting very hard for Sean Snyder.

Thanks for the thoughts, ShockerDR.

I'm obviously rooting for Bohl to get his chance in the P5. He has put in the work, no doubt. And was treated poorly, at the end, by Nebraska.

Although, interestingly, I forgot about one other aspect: Jerry Kill and Tracy Claeys. Both are from Kansas, and Kill was at K-State as a consultant before he got healthy again and decided to give coaching another shot.

Wonder if either, or both, could end up as coordinators on the next K-St regime, regardless who the HC is??

Brent Venables DC at Clemson will also be in the mix to replace Bill Snyder whenever he hangs it up.

That indeed would be another great candidate.

Maybe Kill and Claeys should wait for KU to open up. Looks like the wide receivers coach KU hired from Texas A&M hasn't been able to deliver much so far to Lawrence. Guess he has two seasons to show something.

It looks like KSU is going to have several very good coaches to choose from when the time comes.

That's a whole hell of a lot better than Ron Prince.

Venables and Leavitt both were contacted when Snyder retired the first time, and both thought they had better gigs then. A then-unknown Jerry Kill would likely have been interested also, yet we settled on Ron Prince. All three coaches' situations are different now than they were in 05, and because of their respective different situations I don't see any of those guys coming to KState.

The Snyder tree is so large, though, that KState wouldn't be short for candidates.

Two guys who are one underachieving season away from possibly being unemployed in the HCBS tree are Bob Stoops and Bret Bielema. Would be worth making those phone calls when the time comes to at least gauge interest, and possibly garner recommendations for coordinators who might be ready for that challenge.

Bob Stoops?? I can't see him as the HC anywhere but Oklahoma and not leaving until he decides its time.

Also don't see Oklahoma ever having back-to-back 5-loss seasons, which is the worst he's done in 18 seasons at OU. Last two years were 11-2.

It may not take a 5-loss season for him to be fired, though. David Boren wants OU to compete with the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world. Last year they were eliminated from playoff contention before conference play even began, and Ohio State hammered them in Norman. What if they lose 2-3 games to any of Ohio St, KState, Texas, or OkieSt (all of whom are away from Norman) this year? Does Stoops' history prevent OU from firing him? I'm not convinced.

Crazy? Yeah. Unreasonable? Assuredly. Impossible? Far from it.

To be honest, when Jim Tressel got fired, I thought that Oklahoma was already fed up with Stoops then and that he would have coached the Buckeyes instead of Urban Meyer.
