He will be allowed to retire, again, in his own time.

The new AD would have a short tenure if he were to do anything against Snyder.

Jim Leavitt, current Oregon DC, former USF head coach and former K-State assistant under Snyder, has a unique clause written in his contract that allows him to leave his current role without buyout if he becomes K-State's head football coach.

For those of us old enough to remember, Kansas St was possibly the worst football program in the country in the 80's before Snyder left Hayden Fry and Iowa and preformed a miracle in Manhattan.

Maybe. But Florida State and Virginia Tech were about as bad.

until 1989, I believe there was strong consensus that Kansas State was the worst division 1 program in history. It was just awful. what Synder did a low population state was truly miracle.

while Bowden was still a great coach, it was more of a case that he was in the right place in the right time. Florida State was ready to explode in the 80's simply because of its location in the state of Florida. The fact that Miami, FSU and Florida all took off once they found the right coaches kind of confirms this. But you still had to be a decent coach to take advantage.

Fair enough. Perhaps that will be the case.

Snyder wants his son, Sean, to take over the program. Sean is the special team's coach at KSt.

I'm not sure that's the best move, and I've thought all along that Bohl should follow HCBS, but HCBS has such pull at KSt that Sean may well get the head job (and, IMO, after this year).

Florida St had started winning by then and Virginia Tech never hit those depths. When Synder came to Kansas St in 1989, K-St hadn't won a game in 3 years! Before that they had many 0-11 and 1-10 seasons though out their history. Growing up in Iowa I remember the notion that Big 8 bottom dweller Iowa St could always count on at least one conference win.

Thanks for the info. Well, looks like KSU definitely has some options ... if Taylor even allowed the political leeway to explore. I suppose there will be a committee with finalists, etc. But might all be for show.

Who are the really big dollar KSU football donors?

The Vanier family is the largest. They are ranchers in central Kansas somewhere (I believe near Salina). They donated $60m to the university back in 2014, with $20m earmarked for improvements at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The new football complex on the north end of stadium bears their name.
