Justice Kennedy to step down this year?
Let the speculation begin.

Quote:Kennedy has given no public indication of his plans, but he has drawn attention with a handful of semiprivate scheduling decisions. Perhaps most significantly, his next law clerk reunion will take place during the last weekend of June, offering the possibility that he will spring a piece of news on the gathering.

The timing is noteworthy because previous Kennedy reunions took place every five years, and this one comes four years after the 2013 event. In addition, it’s taking place at the end of June, just as the term concludes, rather than in mid-June like previous reunions...

Justices typically align their retirement plans with the end of the term in late June, though the timing of the announcement itself varies...

One former Kennedy clerk said in an interview he thinks the justice will probably retire at the end of the term. Others say he may stay another year given the extraordinary power he wields. The former clerks declined to speak for attribution.

As the "swing vote" Kennedy, a replacement nominee will be challenged hard by the proggies. Best to find a guy who has a strong resume and strong backbone to withstand the crap the proggies will try and pull.

Get ready for a lot of classy objections, like pubic hairs on Coke cans.

Actually I hope Trump nominates someone who will drive the proggies ****** nuts.

Cruz might be fun.

Might be the greatest choice ever. So I'm sure about 7 Republicans will vote against him.

If only they had saved their fight, but nobody ever said the leftists were smart.

After their latest temper tantrum I expect that if Kennedy does indeed step down hi replacement will be someone who makes Gorsuch look like a moderate and the left will have nobody to blame but themselves.

Only question is this summer or next. He's been telling people he's ready to be done for a couple years. Having his old clerk Gorsuch on the court for one session may be enough of a thrill to allow him to call it a full career.
