Harvard Law Professor Suggests Without Evidence Judge’s Death Was ‘Racist Islamophobic’ Murder

Quote:Noted liberal Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe claimed without evidence in a series of tweets Thursday that a recently deceased New York judge was the victim of a racist murder.

Sheila Abdus-Salaam was the first Muslim-American judge and the first black woman to serve on the New York Court of Appeals. Late Wednesday, her body was found in the Hudson River after she was reported missing. Abdus-Salaam was 65 years old.

Tribe tweeted out his condolences, demanding that her death be investigated as a hate crime.

RE: First Female Muslim Judge Found Dead
From the OP link:

Quote:Police are reportedly investigating the death of a New York judge as a possible suicide, according to multiple news reports.

CNN reported the investigation found that Abdus-Salaam's brother had committed suicide around this time three years ago. As well, according to the New York Times, around this time one year ago Abdus-Salaam's mother had died. In addition to the deaths of her family, the trailblazing judge was also reportedly facing stress from work. However, no suicide note has been found.

Have a family member that attempted suicide. Thank the Lord it was unsuccessful. I feel for this woman's family. Liberal Profs need to take a chill pill before throwing out the race baiting/anti-Muslim card.

Because Islam promotes the idea of minority female judges? I think Herr Professor Doktor has this one backwards. If it is a murder it looks more like the work of a true believer.

Someone could just as easily suggest that she was murdered by Islamists who could cite that the Koran prohibits female judges, so by becoming a judge, she violated Sharia Law and thus needed to be murdered.

Is that any more far fetched than the good professor's suggestion?

If it turns out to be suicide, he will just flip the narrative to be she killed herself because of the stress added to her life by the racists and anti-Muslim people.

RE: First Female Muslim Judge Found Dead
Then there's this:

Quote:That’s the conundrum for the death of Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam. In the dozens of local and national articles published online, in newspapers and aired on television in the hours since her body was found in the Hudson River, she has been described as the first Muslim woman to serve on the Court of Appeals or the first Muslim judge in the U.S.

That description is not accurate. Abdus-Salaam was born Sheila Turner and while her first husband was Muslim, she never converted to Islam,
according to Court of Appeals spokesman Gary Spencer.

Full stop: This, of course, does not negate her status as an important trailblazer in the state’s legal history. She was the first black woman to serve on the state’s highest court.

Spencer, the court spokesman, told me Abdus-Salaam did not mind being referred to a as a Muslim woman and never corrected it.

That being said, it’s fascinating, and a bit disturbing to me as a reporter, how this went unchecked, if only for posterity’s sake. Someday there will be a practicing Muslim serving on the Court of Appeals who should be the one to be identified and honored with the distinction.

I like Tribe, but his comments are ridiculous at this point when no evidence at all seems to point to his claim.

I gained some respect for Tribe when he opined that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision. His commentary was not based on the merits but by the constitutional reasoning applied.
