I know there are lots of opinions on Mick my point is that they both have ties to the school and area with a few more year under coach Fick do you think Gino would be a good choice

I would not be a fan of a guy who has no coordinator experience jumping to head coach, but if he does move up to OC AND PERFORMS, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Seeing that Gino was supposed to be an OC this year, I definitely have high hopes for him.

When Coach Fick retires as the Bearcat Cosch in 20 years Gino had my blessing to take his place.

I could see Gino having a Fickell-esque career from here on out.

Maybe stick here for a staff or two. End up OC for awhile. Leave to get some HC xp, then eventually return to us as HC here.

He wants to coach the Bearcats. He wants to end up as our head coach, someday.

I hope Gino progresses in his career and is someday a successful D1 coach. I can't see any way that happens in the next 4-6 years.

Wasn't the same type of question asked when Coach TT brought in a young OC with NFL experience? He could take over when coach retires... Turns out he sucked and the coach had already retired (but forgot to leave the sideline).

I could definitely see it. Marcus Freeman and Al Washington are both young guys with potential too. Al Washington has really been tearing it up on the recruiting trail. I really like this staff, and with the kind of assistants Fickell attracts, an internal hire could be a good thing if he leaves. That said, I don't think CLF is going anywhere until the OSU job opens up.

This talk seems way premature.

For sure. I just think our fan base is jittery because of being snake bit in the past with up-and-coming coaches. Obviously it beats a re-tread hire like Tuberville.

I think folks underestimate Fickell's desire to not jump around. He has coached in the state of Ohio for 18 years -- 16 at OSU and 2 at Akron. It's no coincidence that his first head coaching gig is an hour and a half down the road from OSU. He's not going to uproot his family for very many jobs. Not to sound hokey, but he is clearly a man of strong Catholic faith who values family above everything else. I think he will be here until Urban retires in 5-10 years. If he's not, then I think he will have elevated the program regardless.

+1, we haven't even had a season with the current head coach.

I don't think anyone is trying to run Fickell off. Just speculation about the career trajectory of a Bearcat great.

I should have said that I don't see coach Fick leave for at least 3-4 years I meant after that I really like this staff and was just wondering what others thought of the potential of Gino being that home grown coach down the line

Agree, and we don't want a Kliff Kingsbury situation at UC where we picked a guy just because we wanted a former Bearcat to be successful and stick around.

Damn Bearcat fans. Just damn. Can we enjoy "He Who Shall Not Be Named" Headset Crash Test Dummy not coaching this season and enjoy the ride for a few years with CLF? Gino won't coach here as head coach because he will go out with Fick unless he bombs as an assistant. See Kerry Coombs. And that's ok. Next man in!

I don't see anything wrong with harmless speculation about what might happen years down the road.

This early, in this regime, is not "harmless speculation".
