I don't really understand Calkins. He was the driving force behind shooting down any idea of pursuing Scott Drew because he was too sleazy. Now, Memphis has a coach who appears to be playing by the book and Calkins is ripping him a new one. You can't have it both ways.

When it comes to ratings, yes you can.

Calkins is a writer in search of a controversy to write about. He constantly stirs the pot looking for a reaction. If Coach K was at Mphs, Calkins would find a negative slant; it is just his nature. Look back at Calipari, Josh, now Tubby, he and his little buddy Gary Parrish have always been,and will continue to be, a negative voice.

So you'd rather they only say positive things even if that's not what the situation calls for? You saw that all of the national writers were saying the same stuff, right?

Calkins is one of the most positive writers out there. Hell, just look at his Bill Courtney/Mullins article up now.

Remember when Josh was on the hot seat and he's writing articles about Josh visiting terminal patients?

I guess not.

Truthful is not negative.

he sure is all riled up this morning for "not having the stomach" to take apart Tubby.

@geoff_calkins
The guy -- to use a phrase -- is what he is. He wants to be an icon. Instead, he's getting appropriately pummeled. Not up to this.

@geoff_calkins
But two things do stand out. He said the team would have won 10 games last year without the Lawsons. SO WHY NOT KEEP THEIR DAD AS ASSISTANT.

@geoff_calkins
And he said he couldn't give a prediction unless McDonald's All-American types walking through the door. INSTEAD WALKING OUT.

I saw those tweets, too, and he sure does seem riled up. Keyboard courage. He and Parrish are on an anti-Tubby jag, and it's not very becoming of "objective" journalists. They've made some points which have a measure of validity, but on the whole it comes across very badly.

IMO.

These clowns are stumbling over themselves trying to get ratings. Gaston had the audacity to insinuate that Wolo's interview with Tubby was "soft" or he didn't ask the tough questions relative to him being the voice of the Tigers. Really, Gaston who listens to YOU?

I don't listen to Greg and Eli, but I will listen to the Tubby interview later. My opinion is Greg's opinion may have merit as, by nature and Wolo's position as the UM play-by-play announcer, he couldn't "go after" Tubby if he wanted to.

I do know Peter Edmiston was not on air today and I wish he would have been as he could have been the "bad cop" to ask the tougher questions.

03-lmfao Dude, GP and GC kissed JP's (body parts) despite the identification of the program's implosion right in front of their faces. Their rationale, "I know he's killing the program but he's such a nice guy"

Tubby thinks - with the roster to date - that the team would be "competitive with just about anybody in the country" in a summer league.

Forgive me if I am more than a little skeptical.

I like what he said about the guys that are coming in, and very positive of each and every one of them. He is right about competing first to get to the NCAA tournament. I think these new players and what he has now, will compete and he may have a strong team to win. He has one signing tomorrow and he did say that he has a couple of more on radar. Let's see if he can reach out to a couple of more, either in Memphis, or throughout the country.04-rock04-cheers

Following is summary of the interview appearing in the CA:
http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sp...100409198/

Based on some of his comments, Tubby must think Tiger fans are a gullible lot.
