Because we aren't truly investing in their education when we are allowing said money to be spent on useless degrees. If federal student loans were going to STEM, medical, or educational degrees only then perhaps it would be more palatable, but when we are spending taxpayer money paying for Lucy to get a women's studies degree or Ethan to get a sociology degree it's wasted money with zero return on investment.

Kap, you beat me to the punch.

No one is suggesting that. The government subsidizes lots of things. Many times they do it for rich corperations. Why wouldn't we want to make the investment in education for our young people? Quote from Fit.

Maybe if some educated people who teach other people learned how to spell Corporations perhaps we'd be better for it.

Sociology degree is helpful for shrinks. It is part of a social behavior of patients which is really helpful to cure issues in the field of the mind.

That's BS. A pharmacy background if much more valuable.

No it's not. A sociology degree is helpful for someone aspiring to become a barista, waitress, or drug store clerk.

Actually an advanced sociology degree IF paired with an Econ degree or the ability to data drill and cull stats to determine human habits is a highly marketable academic combination to online customer science companies like dunnhumby who are using statistics and human behavior patterns for customer science (determining shopping habits for retailers and brands). Big money to those with that specialized skillset.

IMO, the world would be a better place if possession of a degree in sociology were a capital crime.

Seriously, you could buy and purchase any book on the subject and even sit in on some professional lectures and be just as educated.

You shouldn't go to college unless it's for engineering or something.

That info is for a straight sociology major. Not an advanced degree in sociology and economics.

Interesting anecdote: President Reagan was a sociology and economics major.
