2017 CAA Basketball Transfers
Not official yet, but speculation that CJ Bryce is gone. Can't imagine Cacok stays if that's the case. Will be a huge fall.

RE: 2017 CAA Basketball Transfers
Austin Shaver has started to follow 6'6" 220lbs guard Mark Matthews, who has been granted his release from Div. II USC Aiken. For his lone year at USC Aiken Matthews averaged 15.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Before transferring to USC Aiken for his sophomore season Matthews played for UNCW.

Helps fill the roster for year after next, but still leaves us with one forward for 2017-18.

2017 CAA Basketball Transfers
I like Marfo. A little raw offensively but a fantastic rim defender/rebounder. Luckily, his strengths are exactly the weakness of our current lineup. Marfo and Nate would make a long and imposing inside duo. Saw on a GW interview that he is a huge history buff and that was what attracted him to DC. If history is his thing, he would be hard pressed to find a better spot than Williamsburg.

From his high school days:
Strengths:
Marfo is one of the truly elite rebounders in the country, especially on the defensive end. His ability to clean that glass and hold opposing teams to one-and-done is second to none. He's broad and powerful, physical inside the lane and able to carve out space. He clears his real estate like few others and rebounds the ball with two hands in traffic. Offensively, he's a power player with very good footwork. He has the ability to make multiple pivots and counters without changing his pivot foot and between that and his sheer force, he has the ability to work his way to deep position even if he catches at the mid-post. Marfo is tough, physical, plays hard, is a good screener and willing to do all the dirty work inside the lane.

Weaknesses:
He's not a dynamic offensive talent or naturally explosive athlete. One of the most impressive things about his ability to rebound in high volume is that he often does so despite playing below the rim in traffic. Offensively, his ability to score comes in direct correlation to his proximity to the rim, and if he can't catch it deep or work his way closer to the basket, he isn't much of a scoring threat. He's just now starting to develop both a jump hook on the block as well as a mid-range jump-shot facing the basket. Consequently, he's probably more of an undersized center than a four, at least the way the game is played today.

Bottom Line:
He's powerful physical and tough but more than that he has one special skill and it's one that translates right away to the college game - he is a fantastic rebounder. That, and the fact that he has a college ready body, should allow him to make an immediate impact in the Atlantic 10 Conference next year.

Sign me up for Marfo. When was the last time we had a guy on the team who was a truly elite rebounder and rim protector?

Marfo played AAU ball for BABC, the same program as current Tribe 2018 PG offer, Shandon Brown, who visited last week. Brown may be quickly blowing up beyond us, but interesting dynamic we appear to be nurturing with the BABC program and coaches.

RE: 2017 CAA Basketball Transfers
TNTEliteHoopers, a basketball program in Orlando, tweeted:
@SchuylerRimmer back in theShop preparing for his next move as a big time player. 6'10 and can play inside out. Smart, physical & high motor

Austin Shaver started following Rimmer weeks ago but despite being listed as a red-shirt junior on Verbal Commits I have not seen any other indication that he has any eligibility left.

Sure about that, billymac?

He's technically played one full season at Stanford, and two at Florida, but played 2 games his soph season at Stanford before transferring mid-semester. He got a NCAA waiver to only sit out one semester at Florida. Unless he has applied for some other special waiver, he's used up his 4 years, unfortunately with only a 2 game sophomore year.

I think that tweet was probably trying to advertise for professional playing opportunities. Otherwise, my wild guess about the Austin Shaver twitter following was to bring him in as a grad assistant and let him work and practice with Knight, if we didn't secure another post player in 2017.

Unless, you know something we don't know, billymac, which would make us all very happy
