Hearing Doug Esleek from Mercer. UNC grad and current associate head coach. Impressive get for McGrath if true.

Mull is reporting it also and he says he's hearing that May will stay in Chapel Hill.

Lost all of our recruits now and no new staff, not sure if Carr and the DOBO are helping out of if CB is a one man show right in the middle of recruiting period

RE: McGrath assistants
This was my concern when you adopt a style as specific as Keatts brought and you hire coaches from a UNC system. Not sure why we went in that direction if we weren't going to keep it.

My guess is that yes, it's a one man show for the time being.Gonna go out on a limb and say it's going to be a total purge.

RE: McGrath assistants
April 10th thru 13th is a recruiting dead period. Hopefully, he names Manuel and Esleek this week, so we can hit the ground running on the 14th. I imagine he has a player or two in mind, but this is going to be interesting.

A little more about Esleek from his dad:
"Doug Esleeck is a 2005 UNC grad. Played JV at Carolina, then asst JV coach to Hasse, then strength intern. Dir of Ops at UNCG for one year, then assistant coach at Gardner Webb for four years (had the scout for the Kentucky game GW won), then 7 years at Mercer (had the dook scout) and associate head coach his last two years. Head of recruiting at both GW and Mercer."
Esleek and Manuel would be a great start to the staff.

Just searching Esleeck's name, I think he's pretty close to being ready for a head coaching job of his own. I think he would be a great hire.
Esleek and Manuel together would be two solid hires.

Doug Esleeck is officially McGrath's first hire. I'm pretty excited about this.

RE: McGrath assistants
Alex Riley just reported that Valpo assistant Jackie Manuel is C.B. McGrath's second hire per sources. Good staff coming together.
New name in the mix for 3rd asst spot: Joe Wolf - former UNC player, veteran NBA asst & D-League HC.
As coach:
2003–2004 William & Mary (assistant)
2004–2006 Idaho Stampede (CBA)
2006–2008 Colorado 14ers (D-League)
2008–2013 Milwaukee Bucks (assistant)
2014–present Brooklyn Nets (assistant)
I'm not sure where Joe is currently. He's not on the current Nets' staff.

I'd rather have Brett Blizzard than Joe Wolf.

Can't say that I know much about Wolf's coaching abilities, but he was a good player. I assume he'd be a better instructor for bigs than Blizzard.
I imagine Blizzard is in a tough place. It seems as if he's interested in coaching, but is he interested in coaching only at UNCW? As Keatts and McGrath put together staffs, you can see how important relationships are. Blizzard is going to have to start very low at UNCW (i.e. video coordinator), or utilize his relationships with Jerry, Rodney T, Brad, etc.

I wouldn't mind having both. Although I don't see a reason to be upset about Wolf with that resume.

Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but Esleeck's wife is a 1998 graduate of UNCW.

I have no issue with Joe Wolf other than his resume is mostly professional athletes. He was actually my favorite player at Carolina. I just think Blizzard being a coaches son, UNCW experience, foreign basketball experience would bring another dynamic to the already great coaching staff we are going to have. He would be a great hire for an entry level position. He is one of the smartest players that we have ever had in Wilmington.

I can agree there. Blizzard would be a great addition and all accounts are that he wants in. Like you said though... he would have to start low, and hopefully he's okay with that. I don't think there's a UNCW alum that would argue against Blizzard on the bench.

RE: McGrath assistants
Joe Wolf was a Hornet late in his career. He was their only healthy center once when they were playing the Magic when they had Shaq. No one could see how the Hornets could compete without resorting to a "Hack a Shack" strategy.
When the game tipped off, Wolf played Shaq straight up and the Hornets won. It seemed Shaq kept anticipating a foul that never happened.
A college team can have 3 assistant coaches who can recruit off campus. A school can have a Director of Basketball Operations who cannot recruit off campus, but can do everything else. Maybe Brett Blizzard could start with that position and work his way up.
Esleeck, Manuel, Wolf, and Blizzard would be a great staff.
