Some people are trying to go with he was discriminated because he was Asian, which is obviously bullsh*t, point is that most of the public thinks this was bad and aren't happy with how it was handled and the fact is they have a weighted randomized system (minus 1st class and one other type of ticket purchase) and I don't see a large company discriminate, maybe one bad employee but you can't blame the company for the actions of one jacka$$ if that is the case.

I think bullet already touched on this, but if I recall, Takei didn't like his character being used to further an agenda (even though Takei is gay). The Sulu character has never been gay in the Star Trek universe. It was purely a SJW move.

On top of that, it was apparently (I haven't watched that movie) extraneous to the story. It was thrown in just to do it.

He is a good actor, but thats about it.

It was just thrown in there to appease the SJW crowd. It was a stand alone scene that had nothing to with the story.

Oddly I don't care if they made him gay in the movie or not.

Roddenberry was kind of a creep so I don't think he would care.

The point was that Sulu wasn't gay in the original Star Trek or movies and that series has been true to its history, even in alternate universes. They even had stories in ST-Enterprise and ST-DS9 that explained why Klingons looked a lot like humans in ST-TOS!
