RE: Warning to WAC Fans
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully it's only cautionary and not fully necessary. Would hate to see the WAC lose a solid, young coach.

In all seriousness, flattering to WAC programs. However, I would like to see the conference keep coaches like Weir and Barnes as evidence of growing quality.

Currently mobile....at the San Luis coast.

Have to be willing to fork over the green in order to keep them though.

Even if he doesn't take the job at UNM, Weir has just lost all the trust he has built in LC and at NMSU.

That is rough. The other thing that occurs to me is we are literally less than 48 hours from NLI signing day. All of the impressive Spring verbal commitments NMSU has gotten from Top 100 JUCO kids could still flip and follow Wier to UNM. He might go from the second most loved (behind Henson) to most hated man in LC within 24 hours. Ouch.

I'm saying that for any school. Of a coach thinks he's being under paid and the administration doesn't want to give him more money, he has every right to walk. Professional athletes do it all the time, there is very little loyalty in sports nowadays. It is all about the money and will continue to be all about the money until there is an overall societal change that puts more value on that loyalty than money. If Majerle walked for money, I wouldn't have an issue with it cause I've seen it happen far too many times.

But the difference between them and NMSU is that UNM is trying to find a way to get the money.

Lol UNM does not need to try and find the money. They'll just use tax payers money and screw them over AGAIN.

RE: Warning to WAC Fans
No matter how opposing fans feel about NMSU, the Weir situation is bad for the whole conference. No one should be excited about or celebrating the possible departure of Paul Weir. A strong, stable WAC is what really benefits all programs, in both the short and long term.

We all need Aggies at their very best, and Runners at their very best, and Lopes at their very best, and right on down the line for any team or program to have a shot at better seeding & prospects in the tourney. That's why I'm happy to root for other conference members, outside of head-to-head contests.

Here is to hoping with (some) Aggie fans that Weir comes to his senses and steers this situation away from the cliff he's about to drive over.

NMSU should be a good destination. This might put pressure on NMSU to reopen talks with the Horizon

RE: Warning to WAC Fans
NMSU can probably overcome this potential coaching change. But NMSU shouldn't have had to make this change now. Admittedly, I am angry with all the parties involved. UNM shouldn't be poaching our coaches. And, our coaches should know better than to leave for an archrival. This is a slap in the face to NMSU and the Aggie fans who supported him. Even if he doesn't leave after all, the damage has been done for the rest of his tenure in Las Cruces. The loyalty and trust of Aggie fans has been all but lost. It is a shame. He was on pace to being as revered as Aggie great Lou Henson. 03-banghead

College "loyalty" is a funny thing. Nobody on here is turning down more money to stay at their current job, especially if you've only been there a year.

Well, we banter a lot on here, but I really do feel for my Aggie friends on here today.

A little odd to me that UNM looked at a bunch of prople only to settle on someone in their own backyard. I'm wondering if Weir initially rebuffed them early on, and the Lobos then sweetned the pot.

Totally right.

Can you imagine, envision the "reception" he will get this next year when UNM plays at Pan Am??
